Usain Bolt’s pre-Olympics press conference features DJ, cocktails and Samba dancers

THE Usain Bolt brigade rolled into Rio, and judging by his latest press conference, he’s determined to make his last Olympics one to remember.

USAIN Bolt started his media conference with this: “First of all, you guys have to clap louder than that.”

The world’s fastest man also ended it in style 30 minutes later by dancing off the stage accompanied by near-naked Samba dancers.

Ever the entertainer, Bolt is determined to make his Olympic farewell one to remember.

The venue for his pre-Olympic press conference was the biggest theatre in Rio complete with a DJ spinning tunes and cocktail makers distributing different flavours of the local drink caipirinha.

The Jamaican superstar is aiming to take his career Olympic gold medals to nine and wants to break 19 seconds in his favourite event the 200m.

But he’s concerned a hamstring injury which kept him out of the Jamaican trials could impact on him fulfilling that dream.

“I really want it, I really, really want that one. I’ve always wanted to run sub-19, so I’m really focused on that,” Bolt, who owns the current record of 19.19 sec, said.

“As a young kid you grow up looking forward to the big Games. Championships are what matters. This is what I do, I enjoy doing it.

“I’ve got to prove myself over and over again.”

His most recent race was the London Diamond League a few weeks ago where he clocked 19.89 sec although his coach Glen Mills was less than impressed.

“He said after London, ‘That’s one of the worst races you’ve ever run. The corner was awful’. He just went on till I got depressed,” Bolt revealed.

First on his agenda is the 100m — the heats start on Saturday — and a showdown with two-time drug cheat Justin Gatlin.

Bolt, who turns 30 on the night of the closing ceremony, thought the sport would recover from its current doping scandal which saw Russia banned from Rio.

When asked if he could be certain the sprint races would be drug-free, he said: “In life nothing is guaranteed.

“For me going out there I never worry about that. I just go out there and compete.

“I think we’re going in the right direction, I must say. I think we’re weeding out the bad ones. We have to go through a rough time before we get to the good times.

“In a few years the sport will be clean and everything will be great.”

When asked about his time in Rio where he’s been staying at the athletes’ village for the past week, Bolt had few complaints.

“The only problem I’ve had so far was that I had to buy a TV myself,” he said.

“We asked for a TV and somebody said they were going to get it but after two days I just went out and bought one.

“I haven’t gotten around much. I just stay in my room but the track I train at is good, the people are nice and the bus schedule is on time so I can’t really complain.”

Before he waved goodbye with his dancing girls, Bolt explained why he thrives in such an environment.

“I’m a sprinter first but I like to entertain because that’s what people come out to see. It’s what I do. I try to make it different.”
