Bradley Wiggins will bypass traditional Tour de France post-race party to concentrate on Olympics

BRADLEY Wiggins will bypass the traditional Tour de France post-race party - even if he claims the greatest victory of his career.

BRADLEY Wiggins will bypass the traditional Tour de France post-race party - even if he claims the greatest victory of his career - to recover for the London Olympic Games road race.

Every British rider in contention for the Games road race who finishes the Tour on July 22 will be whisked out of Paris to London on the first available flight the night the race ends.

With only five days separating the end of the Tour and the start of the Olympic road race, British officials have made plans to ensure their team begins its recovery immediately.

The post-Tour party is one of the event's great - and most keenly observed - rituals.

But British team officials have already decreed Wiggins and his team-mates are required to leave Paris.

Mark Cavendish is unlikely to continue much further than the end of the second week of the Tour despite being the defending green jersey sprint champion.

The Isle of Man flyer is desperate to launch Great Britain's Olympic gold medal haul with victory on the opening day of competition.

Every Australian rider in the Tour, including defending champion Cadel Evans, is expected to complete the 3497km Tour before transferring to London.

Unlike Cavendish, Matt Goss is committed to contesting the 20th and final stage on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.

The Orica-GreenEDGE sprinter will be accompanied to the French capital by team captain Stuart O'Grady and another team-mate, Simon Gerrans.

Barring catastrophe, Evans (BMC) also will be in Paris while Sky domestique Michael Rogers will be required to support Wiggins to the finish.

Evans and Rogers will contest both the road race and time trial in London, while Goss, Gerrans and O'Grady will focus on the road race.

Britain has named a provisional squad - Cavendish, Wiggins, Steven Cummings, Chris Froome, Jeremy Hunt, David Millar, Ian Stannard, Ben Swift.
