UFC 259 results: Amanada Nunes finishes Megan Anderson with brutal submission
Australian UFC fighter Megan Anderson has become another statistic for Amanda Nunes with their title lasting just two minutes.
Megan Anderson, sadly, has become another statistic for the GOAT.
While it was a night of huge upsets at UFC 259 in Las Vegas, Australia’s own underdog – Gold Coast native Anderson - was totally outclassed in her featherweight title fight against Brazilian superstar Amanda Nunes.
Challenging history’s greatest female Mixed Martial Artist as an $8 outsider, Anderson lasted only a tick over two minutes before being submitted via armbar.
So easy, and swift, was the result, UFC commentator Daniel Cormier described the fight as a “non event”.

Incredibly, on a card boasting three title fights, Anderson’s loss was the only one that went to script - with breakout UFC phenom Israel Adesanya losing for the first time in his professional career.
Already the UFC middleweight king, Adesanya’s tilt to become a ‘champ champ’ was surprisingly squashed when he lost by decision against reigning light heavyweight No.1 Jan Blachowicz.
Afterwards, the New Zealander said he would now go back down to middleweight – where Australia’s Robert Whittaker is again just one win from a title fight – and “rule that bitch with my iron black fist”.
Elsewhere, UFC bantamweight champ Petr Yan was also sensationally stripped of his title after being disqualified for an illegal knee against Aljamain Sterling.
Late in the fourth round, Yan struck Sterling when the New Yorker was quite obviously on the ground, a deliberate act the new champ labelled afterwards as “f…ing bulls...”.
After spending several minutes on the canvas, quite obviously concussed, Sterling was eventually awarded the win and had the belt placed around his waist.
However almost immediately, he tossed the gold strap onto the Octagon floor and quickly walked from the cage.

For Nunes, the win continues a stellar run that has seen the two-division champion not only go six years and now 12 fights without loss, but seemingly look, like a Highlander, completely invincible.
Apart from holding two UFC straps, and being on the longest win streak of any female UFC fighter ever, Nunes has also added Anderson to a resume that includes finishing the career of US megastar Ronda Rousey and dethroning fellow Brazilian great Cris Cyborg.
Certainly UFC 259 was a tough night for Australian fight fans, with Melbourne welterweight Jake Matthews also submitted in the third round of his fight against undefeated American Sean Brady, who is now 14-zero.
Brady secured his fourth win inside the Octagon with an arm triangle after 3:28 gone in the third round.
For Matthews, the loss halted what was quickly building as a strong run for the 26-year-old, who had won three straight and six of his past seven.
