Tim Tszyu defeats Jack Brubaker; Darcy Lussick KO's Justin Hodges

Rising Aussie boxing star Tim Tszyu has continued his undefeated ways by absolutely chopping down Jack Brubaker with his corner throwing in the towel in the fourth round.

Tszyu - the son of Aussie boxing great Kostya Tszyu - was dominant from the outset and in the third round he turned up the heat and once the bell sounded to get the fourth underway he charged across the ring and once applied the blowtorch, retaining his IBF Australasian super welter title.

With Brubaker stuck on the ropes, Tszyu let his hands fly and landed heavy shot after heavy shot and trainer Jeff Fenech was left with no other option than to throw in the towel.

Tszyu had comfortably won the opening three rounds of the fight as Brubaker looked helpless to stop the flood of punches being thrown his way.

The win takes Australia's golden child of boxing to 15-0 and now he'll eye off a shot at a world title in 2020. Asked about when a shot at the world title might come, Tszyu said he'll be ready whenever.

"I was just getting started. That was just a warm up I’m just getting started," Tszyu said after the win.

"We want world titles and we want them in Sydney.

"There’s always room for improvement. I got hit a few times but I think I’m getting better."

As dominant as Tszyu was during the main event on the night, it was former NRL big man Darcy Lussick who stole the show with a hellacious finish against a fellow former NRL heavyweight in Justin Hodges.

Lussick making his debut rocked Hodges with a monster right hand that turned his lights off in only 39 seconds.

This is it. The fight we've all been waiting for. Tim Tszyu and Jack Brubaker are in the ring, they've received their instructions and touched gloves. It's time.

Round 1: Feeling out early on before Tszyu landed the more meaningful shots and began working behind his jab and clipping Brubaker with combos. 10-9 Tszyu

Round 2: Tszyu picked Brubaker apart throughout the round and landed lefts and rights at will. 20-18 Tszyu

Round 3: It's one-way traffic in this fight with Tszyu just teeing off against his opponent and landing shots whenever he wants. 30-27 Tszyu

Monster knockout ends NRL war

One punch was all it took.

Darcy Lussick landed an absolute bomb of a right hand and Justin Hodges was seeing another universe only 39 seconds into the fight.

The two men spent the opening moments feeling each other out before they tangled and it was as they split when Lussick unleashed and landed a hellacious right hand on the chin of Justin Hodges which sent him head first into the canvas.

Hodges got back to his feet, albeit looking like a newborn foal, and tried convincing the referee he was fine … but his eyes showed his head was in another dimension and the fight came to an end.

Sadly the loss for Hodges means a future bout against Paul Gallen is all but off the table.

Lussick was happy to get the job done early and after the fight called out former AFL legend Barry Hall who made his professional debut against Paul Gallen last month.

"I've gone through every scenario in my head about a thousand times over the last couple of weeks but I'm glad I got it done early," Lussick said.

"I heard Barry Hall is looking for a fight.

"I'm free if he wants to fight."

NRL grudge match up next

Justin Hodges holds a 2-0 record, but has only spent 95 seconds in the ring more than his opponent, Darcy Lussick, who is making his debut.

It's not the main event on the night, but a duel between two NRL heavyweights is always going to draw the eyeballs and the fireworks are set to fly when Hodges and Lussick touch gloves.

Busted eardrum stops fight

David Light has emerged victorious in the third fight on the night with the referee waving it off in the third round, seeing Light retain his WBO Oriental cruiserweight title.

A powerful right hand from Light smashed the left ear of Trent Broadhurst who grimaced in pain immediately before dropping to the canvas.

Another shot later in the second had the same effect as it was clear Broadhurst was struggling.

After stepping back out for the third round, Light went after the damaged ear and it wasn't long before the referee brought an end to the punishment with Broadhurst unable to go on.

Brubaker's night before routine

He may be heading into the fight as the underdog with the bookies, but Jack Brubaker is stepping into the ring full of confidence he can take down the golden child of Australian boxing.

"All the talk has been done, now it's time to back it up," Brubaker said.

The challenger looked calm and composed ahead of the fight and revealed his night before routine to take his mind off the fight.

"I watched Love Actually, usually puts me to sleep within 10 minutes and it worked," he said.

"Took my mind off the fight. Woke up this morning, got a fade and we're ready to go."

Tarimo wins slugfest

The second fight on the card was an absolute belter as both Nathaniel May and Bruno Tarimo went at it for a full 10 rounds.

May looked to have his opponent hurt in the opening round before Tarimo regained control and his pressing of the fight saw him keep May backed up against the ropes for the bulk of the rounds.

In the latter stages of the fight May began landing the heavier, cleaner shots but Tarimo refused to take a backwards step and just kept on pressing the pace with relentless pressure.

The judges clearly like the way Tarimo went about it as he scored a clear cut unanimous decision victory (92-98, 93-97, 92-98).

Aussie banger gets night started

Luke 'Banger' Boyd comes out of the gate like a raging bull and Friday night was no different.

As soon as the bell rang Boyd charged across the ring and began pressuring his opponent Masing Warawara.

Boyd never took his foot off the gas and as the fists continued to fly a thumping right hand got through the gap and onto the chin of Warawara.

90 seconds into the fight and Warawara fell to the canvas and that was all she wrote.

Tszyu ready to showcase 'deadly' power

A deadlier Tim Tszyu plans to unveil a new style and different punches in his Friday night boxing bout with Jack Brubaker.

Defending the IBF Australasian super welterweight title, IBF No.7 and WBO No.12 rated contender Tsyzu (14-0) is targeting a knockout after feeling disrespected by Brubaker.

“You’re going to see a new style; that I can show adaptation,” Tszyu told AAP.

“You’ll see me come out with different punches and different things."

Working with some renowned trainers in the United States has also helped Tszyu add to his repertoire.

“Freddie Roach was concentrating on Tim’s ability to move more in the ring,” Tszyu’s manager Glen Jennings told AAP.

“Dewey Cooper in Vegas was all about ‘Timmy I’m going to work with you on your power.’

“I think you may well see Tim a bit more deadly in terms of what he does when he hits someone.”

With a potential world title shot a prospect for 2020, Tszyu can’t afford to be on the wrong end of an upset.

“If Tim keeps winning he gets a world title fight, that’s how simple it is, a loss would be devastating,” Tszyu’s promoter Matt Rose told AAP.

Brubaker (22-2) is happy to embrace the role of underdog.

“I love the underdog mentality. It’s the Rocky story. Australia slways gets behind the underdog,"’ Brubaker told AAP.

“I’m looking forward to going in there and putting on a show.”
