Tim Tszyu is set to make his long-awaited overseas debut in the US next month, as he continues his pursuit of the super-welterweight world championship.

According to the Daily Telegraph and ESPN, Tszyu will take on US Olympian Terrell Gausha in the co-main event for the reunification rematch between Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano.

The fight will take place on March 19 at Crypto.com Arena, the home of the NBA’s LA Lakers.

While there has been no official confirmation of the fights, tickets have already gone on sale for what would be one of 2022’s biggest fight cards.

“Something is in the works but it is yet to be finalised,” George Rose, the boss of Tszyu promoters No Limit, told the Daily Telegraph.

“We will have a huge announcement on Tim Tszyu’s future next week.”

A bout with Gausha would be Tszyu’s second fight since being named the mandatory challenger for Charlo’s WBO belt.

Castano fought out a controversial draw against WBC, WBA and IBF champion Charlo in their unification fight last year.

The duo have been lobbying for a rematch ever since, halting Tszyu’s quest for a world championship.

But the Australian refused to rest on his laurels, staying active by fighting Japan’s Takeshi Inoue in November last year.

Tszyu dominated the 12-round fight, winning by unanimous decision to extend his undefeated professional record to 20-0.

In the meantime, negotiations between Charlo and Castano for a rematch continued.

Gausha represents the toughest challenge of Tszyu’s career so far. The 34-year-old, who represented the US at the 2012 Olympics, has a 22-2-1 record, with his only losses coming against world champions Erickson Lubin and Erislandy Lara. Gausha won his last fight with a brutal knockout win over Jamontay Clark.

Tszyu will be heading into enemy territory against Gausha, who will have the support of American fans in LA.

A victory would help prove Tszyu’s credentials to an international audience and ensure he is viewed as a genuine challenger to Charlo’s super-welterweight belt.
