Tim Tszyu branded a ‘diva’ for flashy car stunt at bizarre boxing presser

Tim Tszyu is usually a low key type of guy but he was roasted by his rival after turning up to their press conference in flashy style.

Tim Tszyu’s opponent accused him of being “a diva” after the Australian boxing star rocked up to Friday’s official press conference in flamboyant fashion.

Tszyu takes on Tony Harrison for the interim WBO super welterweight title and the pair on Sunday were in fine form at a bizarre pre-fight press conference in Sydney.

After the fighters appearing on the undercard spoke, a shirtless Harrison was introduced and he promptly walked up to the stage and took his seat.

But Tszyu made him wait a couple of minutes before he eventually arrived with much fanfare in a bright red Dodge Ram pick-up truck.

It was a bold entrance by the usually low-key Aussie — who was also sporting a sharp navy blue suit — and Harrison couldn’t resist teasing him.

The American quipped: “He got out of that car like a diva!

“You had somebody open the door for you. He’s just different man. I’m not knocking him, I’m just opposite.

“I like him. I don’t think he understands how corny he is. I like him though.”

Tszyu hit back: “That was a bit of a low blow ... that’s not right.”

“He got out of that car like a diva! … You had somebody open the door for you. He’s just different man. I’m not knocking him, I’m just opposite.” laughed Harrison.

He explained his arrival and outfit was just a sign he was in “killer mode” and ready to beat Harrison.

“I feel like I’m in the zone,” Tszyu told reporters.

“The last time I wore a suit was to the Jeff Horn fight. The only reason I did it was because I was in that mental state. This time I feel it. Before I wasn’t as pumped or interested.

“But this is the one. I went all in four months ago. Foot on the pedal, gave it everything and this is what the suit represents for myself.”

Harrison cut a different figure, going shirtless to show off his ripped physique — an attire he joked was for either “business or b****es”.

“When they see me on that sideline with my shirt off, they knew I had next... I meant f***ing business,” he said.

“Business or b****es. This one? I think Tim knows why my shirt is off.”

Tszyu believes Harrison’s lean physique makes him look fragile and he has declared he wants to try and break some of his ribs. But Harrison doesn’t see that happening.

He said: “Who’s bones has he broke already? In 21 fights, how many bones has he broke?”

The prize awaiting the winner of Sunday’s night is a date with Jermell Charlo to become the unified super welterweight champion.

“This division is the best in boxing,” Harrison said.

“I know exactly how this fight is going to play out... he’s going to do one thing... But for me, expect the unexpected. I’m balls to the wall, just like he is. It’s going to be a great fight.”

Harrison suggested the crowd at Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena would be turning out to support him, but Tszyu quickly shut that talk down.

“Everybody in Australia likes me! The whole of Australia actually loves me,” Harrison said.

“I’m a hard guy not to love to be honest! It’s just hard for you to say it.

“Most of these Australians are coming out because of me, not because of him!”

Tszyu replied: “Don’t say it’s because of you. (It’s the) Tim Tszyu show, man.”

Tszyu is taking a huge risk by even fighting Harrison when he could just waited for Charlo to recover from his hand injury for a fight that was already locked in.

The 28-year-old’s last two fights have gone the distance and a knockout win over Harrison will go a long way to proving he has what it takes to beat Charlo.

“Of course it’s easier said than done but if it does present itself then yeah I would (knock him out),” Tszyu said.
