The feud between Nikita Tszyu and Dylan Biggs has gone to another level, with the Australian champion issuing a bold pre-fight threat.

Tszyu (7-0, 6KOs) will take on Biggs (10-0, 7KOs) on Wednesday night in Newcastle in a clash between two undefeated stars of Australian boxing.

The build up to the domestic boxing showdown has centred around a debate over which fighter should walk to the ring last.

Biggs is the Australian super welterweight champion and wants to walk to the ring last per boxing tradition, but promoters No Limit have said Tszyu will walk out last because he is the main drawcard.

“This is the Nikita Tszyu show,” No Limit promoter George Rose said.

“This wouldn’t be happening if it wasn’t for Nikita Tszyu. We wouldn’t be on pay-per-view.”

At a fiery exchange at Monday’s pre-fight press conference, Tszyu said he couldn’t understand why Biggs was so determined to be the one that walks to the ring last.

Tszyu: “We’re going to fight no matter what. You want to fight me yeah?

Biggs: “Yeah”

Tszyu: “So why wouldn’t you get into the ring. If you get the call to get into the ring, why wouldn’t you take that.”

Biggs: “Because I’m the champion and deserve the respect of walking second.”

Asked what he plans to do if told on fight night he has to walk out before Tszyu, Biggs said: “I’ll guess we’ll have to see. I’m not going to sit here and tell everyone what’s going to happen.”

“Stop being such a brat about it,” Tszyu said.

“It’s the promoters, it’s their shows. My promoters, they’re the ones that are putting up the big bucks to create this event.

“When you get the call to come out, you come out. I don’t know what’s so hard about it.”

To which Biggs replied: “It’s too bad I don’t take instructions from Nikita Tszyu.

“The belt should come before the last name and I don’t see why that should change.”

Pressed on whether Tszyu would be the fighter who walks out last, Rose said: “In my opinion, yes.

“I stand by that, for now. I said this is the Nikita Tszyu show. This is what we’re here for. We’re here because Nikita is a star in Australian boxing.

“He’s going to fight for the Australian title on Wednesday night against the Australian champion, but he’s the star of the show.”

Biggs said afterwards he was still unsure whether any resolution had been reached on the walk out saga.

“It’s pretty stalemate,” he said.

“I don’t know. I guess we’ll have see what they pull out on the night. I definitely put it in their heads so it’s something they’re thinking about.”

Tszyu also took aim at Biggs’ mindset after he said he was “treating this like every other fight”.

“For me, this is like a life or death situation,” Tszyu said.

“This is what everything means to me. My life is coming to a crescendo at this point … This fight is the biggest of them all, this is where everything comes together ... the biggest set of pressures involved.

“I’ve always thought this but the greatest challenges bring out the best in you. Dylan is easily the toughest challenge I’ve faced and he’s going to bring out the best in me.”
