Paul Gallen has sensationally stormed out of his pre-fight press conference in an extraordinary stunt as he let rip at his opponent.

The former NRL star was appearing at a press conference on Monday at Sydney’s Star Casino to promote his fight against Kris Terzievski in Newcastle on Wednesday night for the Australasian heavyweight title.

Gallen said he was ecstatic to be headlining a stacked fight card featuring the likes of Olympic bronze medallist Harry Garside and Nikita Tszyu, but he was furious at Terzievsk’s supposed reluctance to pump up their fight.

“I’m really proud and grateful to be headlining this card,” Gallen said.

“This is the best card I’ve ever been apart of. So to headline this act and put on a show means a hell of a lot to me.

“But one thing that’s frustrated the cr*p out of me the last 20 minutes sitting here is I’ve heard three or four blokes say about the publicity they’re going to get.

“Kris has done nothing to sell this fight. Nothing, not one thing. Didn’t turn up to the media the other day.

“There was more media at the media day the other day than at an NRL Grand Final. Didn’t turn up for it, didn’t fit in his schedule.

“So I’m not going to sit here for one more minute and f***ing promote him.”

In a theatrical move, Gallen got up from his chair and walked over to Terzievski on the other side of the stage and eyeballed his opponent as he let rip.

“I’ve got one thing to say before I go. Kris, you are a pretty boxer but Wednesday’s not going to be pretty,” he said.

“It’s going to be ugly, it’s going to be a street fight and I’m going to bash you. I’m not here to promote you for one more second.”

Gallen then dropped his microphone and proceeded to walk out of the venue, abruptly ending the press conference.

Terzievsk was initially lost for words at the bold stunt by Gallen.

“Good on you Paul, that was real staunch mate,” he responded.

“He caught me off guard with that one I didn’t expect that. Good on you Paul.

“Like I said, you drink out of mugs, you don’t fall into them. He can do what he wants, he can bring the fight and I welcome it. So fair play.”

The mild-mannered Terzievsk was slammed by Gallen for not attending a press conference last week, but he said that was simply because of a logistical issue and he was happy to let his boxing do the talking.

“He can do what he wants to do,” the 32-year-old told reporters.

“That was a bit out of character for him. I’ve never seen him do that in my experience. He was saying he’s in my head, maybe I’m potentially in his.

“In terms of talking it up, this is a gentleman’s sport at the end of the day. I’m trying to be respectful and make no mistake, don’t take kindness for weakness.

“This is the hurt business. We’re going to go in there and try hurt each other come Wednesday night.

“I don’t feel like I have to discredit anyone. I don’t have any feelings towards him good or bad. I hope we end up safe at the end of the fight but I’ll be looking to inflict as much damage as I can.”

When asked if Gallen was a hypocrite for storming out and missing a chance to talk up the fight, Terzievsk responded: “Yeah you could say that.

“From what I’m been told though, Gal loves talking to the cameras so I’m not too sure.”

If Gallen beats Terzievsk on Wednesday night, the former Cronulla Sharks star will become the first athlete cross-code athlete to win a heavyweight boxing title.
