Manny Pacquiao won’t be watching Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor

A MAN responsible for the biggest fight in boxing history to date says there’s a far better event on in the same arena than the McGregor vs. Mayweather “sideshow”.

Floyd Mayweather Jr will come out of retirement to face UFC star Conor McGregor in a boxing match on Aug. 26.

FLOYD Mayweather Jr is no stranger to blockbuster events.

His previous fight in 2015 against boxing legend Manny Pacquiao broke the sport’s all-time pay-per-view record, leapfrogging fighting legends and taking the top spot as the biggest bout in history with a whopping 4.6 million views sold.

Mayweather one-upped himself when he put pen to paper to seal another record-breaking fight — this time against UFC champion Conor McGregor.

The fight, which will take place on August 27th (AEST) is tipped to pip MayPac for the top spot as the biggest fight in history with each combatant predicted to take home over $100 million.

McGregor’s monolithic following and explosive pre-fight trash talk — combined with Mayweather’s incredible 49-0 professional record — has millions of fans from either side of the combat sports spectrum eager to throw their hard-earned dollars at their television to watch the fight.

But one man won’t be joining in on the action.

Pacquiao, who is currently in Australia ahead of his fight against underdog Jeff Horn, says the Las Vegas blockbuster is in danger of being “boring” and is far from keen on watching the mashup.

The welterweight legend said McGregor’s novice skills as a boxer will be his downfall, and could very well lead to a painfully uneventful event.

“McGregor has no chance in this fight,” Pacquiao said in an interview with Yahoo Sports. “In fact, it could be very boring. There is no way he will be able to land a meaningful punch on Floyd.

“How could he? He has no professional experience in boxing.”

The 38-year-old said his aniticpation is much higher for another fight in the same arena. Current middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin is set to fight against challenger Canelo Alvarez three weeks after Mayweather’s fight against McGregor at T-Mobile Arena on September 16th.

“The real fight and the best fight is Golovkin vs. Canelo,” Pacquiao said. “[It will be] the best vs. the best. That’s the fight I will be watching.”

Alvarez shot a cannonball in the direction of Mayweather-McGregor this week calling their highly-publicised fight a “sideshow”.

“If they want to see a sideshow, they can see a sideshow,” Alvarez said told reporters at Madison Square Garden. “If they want to see a fight — a real fight — they’ll go ahead and buy my fight with Golovkin.”

Golovkin agreed, slamming the fight as a “silly show” and claimed his fight with Alvarez was a gift to the real fans of the sport.

“Ours is real [and] professional,” he said. “This fight is our present to boxing fans.”

FATAL MOVE COULD END HORN-PACQUIAO

A quick shimmy and it could all be over.
A quick shimmy and it could all be over.

Pacquiao’s fight against Jeff Horn at Suncorp Stadium this weekend will be the biggest boxing fight held on Australian soil.

And the 38-year-old legend is adamant it will be over quickly.

Speaking to the Courier Mail this week, Pacquiao said his preparation has wiped any nerves from his mind ahead of the clash.

“My preparation has been very good,’’ Pacquiao said.

“Jeff Horn is a schoolteacher but I am a teacher in the boxing ring.’’

Horn will be looking to capitalise on his size advantage over Pacquiao, but one serious factor in the Filipino’s arsenal could spell disaster for the Queenslander.

A jump to the left followed by a step to the right could be all Pacquiao needs to bring down the 29-year-old on home soil.

“This is Jeff Horn’s big chance. He’s a dangerous guy,” Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach said.

“But he will get an awful shock when he experiences Manny’s speed. Horn has never seen anything like the speed Manny brings to the ring and he won’t be able to handle it.”
