Tim Tszyu takes titles from Dwight Ritchie

Tim Tszyu is the spitting image of his legendary father Kostya and he delivered a consummate performance to defeat Dwight Ritchie by unanimous decision in their battle for the IBF Australasian super welterweight title.

Tszyu busted Ritchie wide open in the second round with a big right that split Ritchie above the left eye.

And it was thought Ritchie, the world No. 9, would have been stopped from coming back out but he was allowed to keep fighting and showed tremendous toughness to push on.

Tszyu delivered a brilliant performance and showed his class with his right hand and left hook proving to be his dominant weapons.

To his credit Ritchie kept coming and even nabbed a couple of rounds but Tszyu was simply too good.

The fight ended up being scored for Tszyu by all three judges 98-93, 98-92 and 97-93.

Tszyu praised the performance of Ritchie and said maybe one day they might fight for a world title in Australia, such was the respect he had for his opponent.

"He is the real deal and he has shown us he is ready for bigger things," Tszyu said.

"I think it was a great experience, Dwight is one hell of an opponent and kept me on my toes.

"I just remained the same, just kept fighting on, this is boxing not dancing.

"He was No. 1 in Australia for a reason so all my respect to Dwight.

"Maybe in the future we can fight for a world title in Australia one day."

When asked about fighting fellow Aussie Jeff Horn, who famously defeated Manny Pacquiao in 2017, Tszyu seemed to indicate he had loftier goals in mind and that Horn had to first fight Michael Zerafa.

"I just proved I am the best in Australia, I have cleaned up my division, time to think about overseas, there are only a few fights in Australia left for me," he said.

"He (Horn) is here, once he finishes his task then we can talk."

It appeared Horn did not think Tszyu was worth his time and called him "a boy".

"Tim Tszyu is still a boy with a man's name," Horn taunted. "He is still holding onto that Tszyu name.

"He has to build himself up a little bit more.

"Sure he is one of the best in Australia in that weight division, he is making inroads, he is doing great things for the sport but is he ready yet for that massive fight? I don't know.

"I would like to see him against some world class opposition."

Horn would now want to beat Zerafa in their fight on August 31 or he could be forced to eat those very words.

Tapia dominates Quinlan to take title

Renold Quinlan may have once defeated an on his way out Daniel Geale but he was nowhere near the same boxer in Sydney on Wednesday night.

Quinlan looked to be in great shape for the fight with Mateo Tapia but he let the Mexican-born Australian dominate for nine of the 10 rounds of the fight. Australian super middleweight title bout.

Quinlan actually came roaring back in the final round landing a few uppercust and Tapia was one warning away from a DQ after twice hitting Quinlan on the way out of the break.

It would not matter in the end as the 21-year-old Tapia remained undefeated with the unanimous decision victory.

All three judges scored the fight for Tapia 98-92, 99-92, 97-93.

Controversy as AFLW star 'bombards' opponent

AFLW star Tayla Harris took inside two rounds to stop Renee Gartner in their women's middleweight fight but the win had a dose of controversy.

Gartner edged the opening round before she opened up on Gartner in the second.

Gartner tagged Harris early in the second round but it only seemed to fire Harris up.

Harris unleashed a furious flurry of punches late in the second that Gartner was unable to cover up for or stop.

She looked hurt but when the referee waved off the fight on a TKO, Gartner was openly heard complaining of being punched in the back of the head. The commentators agreed with her.

"She just bombarded her with both hands," they said.

"She (Gartner) did get hit behind the head but it's just one of those things when plenty of punches are thrown."

Harris talked up a title shot post fight and said she would take on any opponent.

"Whatever comes up I am ready, and I will take it."

Kazakh holds onto title with ease

After 10 rounds the Super Middleweight title has been retained by Kazakh Aidos Yerbossynuly.

All three judges scored the fight for Yerbossynuly 99-91, 98-92 and 98-92 over Rocky Jurkic.

It was pure domination from the champion as he took a few heavy shots from Jurkic but they did not phase him in the slightest as he put on a boxing clinic.

Brubaker stops Kennedy by TKO

Jack Brubaker has won the first bout on the main card stopping Daniel Kennedy in the eighth round of the fight.

The bout was waved off by the referee due to a cut running the length of Kennedy's eyelid.

The first few rounds were where Kennedy looked the better as he danced around Brubaker but as the later rounds came Brubaker took the ascendancy.

From the sixth round onwards the pair began top trade some heavy blows with Brubaker landing some more shots until the ref stopped the fight.
