Jeff Horn is confident in his chances against Floyd Mayweather

AUSTRALIAN boxing champion Jeff Horn has taken another almighty swipe at the ultimate targer, Floyd Mayweather, echoing his bizarre post-fight sledge.

AUSSIE boxer Jeff Horn has revisited his bizarre post-fight sledge calling out boxing immortal Floyd Mayweather.

Shortly after pulling off a sensational upset against Manny Pacquiao to take the WBO welterweight title, Horn fired off a question in the undefeated legend’s direction.

“One thing first — this is just having a bit of a dig overseas to Floyd Mayweather — this is no joke, which one does he want? The walking stick or the gloves? Come have a real fight,” Horn said as he held a pair of boxing gloves in his right hand and a wooden walking stick in his left.

A week ago, nobody in their wildest dreams thought the plucky young Aussie would ever be considered for a fight against Mayweather — but now it’s become a serious talking point among boxing fans around the country.

Questions over Horn’s next target spread like wildfire after his victory at Suncorp with many speculating over a rematch with the Filipino legend.

Horn responded to questions surrounding his future in the ring in an appearance on Channel Nine’s The Footy Show Thursday night.

“It could be another rematch with Manny Pacquiao back here in Brisbane or in Melbourne,” he said.

When asked if he’d prefer a rematch with Pacquiao or follow up on his sledge to Mayweather, Horn replied in his typical nonchalant tone, claiming he’d be able to take down the 49-0 American.

“Probably the Mayweather fight,” he said. “It’s someone else and it’s another legend I could beat.”

While the matchup would provide Australia with one of its biggest sporting spectacles in recent memory, Horn’s proposed bout with Mayweather looks to remain a pipe dream in the minds of ambitious fans.

ESPN boxing expert Dan Rafael admitted the fight would be “highly unlikely”.

“Look, you never say never, just because who the heck knows? But it would seem highly unlikely,” Rafael told Big Sports Breakfast on Monday.

“Mayweather’s going to fight Conor McGregor ... most people think when Floyd beats him and does so very easily and collects another payday that’s going to be in excess of $US100 million, that at that point he’ll retire for good.

“He’ll be 50-0, he’ll have another payday in his bank account, he’ll be 40-years-old, soon to be 41 in January and at that point, what’s the fight out there for him?”

Thousands joined a ticker-tape parade in Brisbane in honour of the former schoolteacher, who said he doubted if Pacquiao had personally backed a call to review the outcome of last Sunday’s title bout.

“I don’t actually believe that would be Pacquiao actually even saying that himself,” the Australian told Channel Nine.

“Maybe it is his team around him. But Pacquiao seemed very humble in the way that he lost and thought the decision was correct.

“I am ready for a rematch. If he wants to come back and do it again, we will do it. That’s up to him, he’s got the option,” Horn said.

Written off by most observers, the 29-year-old stunned the Filipino legend with his ultra-aggressiveness to earn a unanimous 12-round decision.

The result has been widely questioned, with many believing Pacquiao should have won.

The 38-year-old Filipino champion Wednesday backed a formal request by the Philippines’ Games and Amusement Board for the World Boxing Organisation to review the decision.

“I love boxing and I don’t wanna see it dying because of unfair decisions and officiating,” he said in a statement issued by his office.

“I had already accepted the decision, but as a leader and - at the same time - fighter I have the moral obligation to uphold sportsmanship, truth and fairness in the eyes of the public.”

In the twilight of a 22-year pro career in which he won world titles in an unprecedented eight weight divisions, Pacquiao had initially called for a rematch, but later said he would also “think hard” about retiring.

In Brisbane, with chants of “Hornet! Hornet!” ringing out, the Australian boxer was handed the keys to the city and told thousands of supporters he was ready for the next challenge.

“Thank you all for turning up and supporting me and my dreams and, as you can see, you never give up.

“I went through a tough round nine, pushed hard through and we got there” he told the crowd. “We got that World Championship.”
