SuperCoach NBL experts reveal their revised trades for round 4

An injury to Taran Armstrong has forced a rethink of this week’s trades. Who are our experts getting instead? See all their moves here.

SuperCoach NBL: Buy, Hold, Sell Round 4!

You have to be quick on your feet in SuperCoach NBL.

Carefully laid trade plans for round 4 had to be hastily rewritten after news broke on Wednesday that Cairns Taipans star Taran Armstrong will miss both games this round with an ankle injury.

Where have our experts landed?

Scroll down to see all their moves this week.

MICHAEL RANDELL

Only one trade so far – Will Hickey to Jaylen Adams for obvious reasons. Had $300k sitting in bank to facilitate. Not sure I’ll make a second trade. Potentially Olbrich to Gak.

PETER HOOLEY

IN: Kendric Davis, Xavier Cooks

OUT: Milton Doyle, Jack White

Thankfully my salary left gave me some room to make these trades this week. Chasing the doubles with two superstars who went off last week.

MATT HICKEY

IN: Kyrin Galloway, Kendric Davis

OUT: Jack White, Shea Ili

A pair of singles coming up for United means Jack White and Shea Ili take what could only be a temporary departure from my team, with Kyrin Galloway and Kendric Davis both stepping in. The move means I have seven players on the double this round and $137.8k in the bank for PJC next week.

JAYMZ CLEMENTS

IN: Kyrin Galloway, Casey Prather

OUT: Lachie Olbrich, Will Hickey

There’s nothing better in a SuperCoach season than those rosy couple of weeks after the first few player price rises. Basically, everyone is like me when I was 17: we think we know everything, we’ve got it all figured out and the good times will keep on rolling. But the stark reality is that we only know what we’ve experienced this far … so preparation is the key to not ending up like me from ages 17-21 (a confused mess stumbling from one disaster to another).

The preparation I had for this week was loading up on Sixers players last week and banking a little cash to make a luxury trade or two this week to help boost both my point production and cash generation. So with that in mind, and everyone’s big trade target Taran Armstrong ruled out, the obvious replacement is Kyrin ‘Not From’ Galloway: with a double this round against Perth and Sydney and a Break Even of only 14, he will skyrocket in value and with Armstrong out, his role on Adam Forde’s team should reward the SuperCoaches bringing him in.

With a double this week and another in two rounds’ time, Galloway should be top of everyone’s list to get in this week.

My other move is finally pulling the pin on the Will Hickey experiment: he’s neither scoring quite enough points nor generating enough cash on my bench to justify his spot, especially while Brisbane’s Casey Prather is just sitting there waiting to be traded in.

Of course, considering that Prather plays for Brisbane and only has single game weeks until round 10, this is simply a cash grab trade when comparing him to Hickey. Prather has a tasty, tasty match-up against the defensively bereft Phoenix this week and, despite already having one price rise under his belt, is projected to rise by another $23K with a Break Even of -6 this week. Basically, Prather could generate another $40K of value that I can move off of in a few more weeks while also providing super-solid bench production.

Meanwhile, by the time Hickey gets to the Hawks next set of doubles, he could already be losing cash with a BE in the 20s (same as me when I was in my 20s, come to think of it). Yikes.

SUPERCOACH PLEB

IN: Jaylen Adams, Keli Leaupepe

OUT: Will Magnay, Shea Ili/Lachie Olbrich

My trades this round is for purely cash generation. Having seen teams use their second, and in some rare cases, third boost, I’ll be holding strong and just making the two trades this round, leaving me with three boosts.

As much as I don’t want to, I’ll be trading Magnay and starting White. If all goes to plan, this is a $40K-plus swing when I bring Magnay back next round. I’ll be bringing in Jaylen Adams and he’ll be my captain, too. My second trade, pending any other injury news, will be Olbrich or Shea Ili down to Keli Leaupepe for more slow cash generation.

I won’t be taking risks this round on Galloway, Gak or essentially any other Cairns player.

It’s a long season, so plenty of time to make up the points! I’ll be satisfied with a 400-plus round.

JAMIE HUGHES (Usage Rate podcast)

IN: Casey Prather, Xavier Cooks

OUT: Shea Ili, Will Magnay

This week I am continuing the theme of prioritising cash generation. Prather’s first cash rise last week was as good as it could have been and have left him with a mouthwatering Break Even of -6. Brisbane’s schedule is not enticing whatsoever, however his flexibility moving forward, along with expected cash increase, will be worth it. Although releasing Magnay may be a risky move, Cooks’ domination last week has made him an almost ‘must have’ if you want him for the elite upcoming schedule, starting this week. If you don’t get him this week, you may miss out. These moves will allow me to get a genuine must-have in Parker Jackson-Cartwright next week.

AL PATON

IN: Xavier Cooks, Kyrin Galloway, Sunday Dech

OUT: Shea Ili, Rob Loe, Jack White

It’s a Melbourne United clearout, with value picks Ili and Loe first out the door. They have been serviceable but unfortunately haven’t made a lot of cash, which means I have to part ways with White – who I would have loved to stash on my bench until Melbourne’s next run of doubles. But you have to make tough calls in SuperCoach to get a player like Cooks, who could score 80-plus in two games and jump in value almost as much as White – making him a path to New Zealand’s Parker Jackson-Cartwright next week, who is the biggest must-have of the season.

This plan requires a value pick in the guard position and, let’s be honest, there aren’t a lot of great options. I’m taking a punt on Adelaide’s Sunday Dech, who managed to score 25 SuperCoach points last round despite getting the ball in the hoop just once in 27 minutes on court – fortunately the scoring system rewards rebounds, blocks and assists. If I can get 30 or 40 from him on the double I’ll count that as a win.

TIM MICHELL (Still not an expert)

IN: Tyler Robertson, Rob Edwards

OUT: Shea Ili, Will Hickey

After initially planning a boost which involved ending up with Taran Armstrong as our second guard, my plans were up-ended when he was ruled out.

I could have gone all the way to Jaylen Adams but with a Break Even of 83, hopefully he will get a bit cheaper. Missing out on Kyrin Galloway is probably going to hurt, but not as much as not having Xavier Cooks or Adams probably will.

I am a sucker for burning all my boosts way too early and after putting myself in a decent position after three rounds, I’m going to be a bit more tactical this time around with them.

This also means keeping Jack White, who has a Break Even of 9.

Hopefully that gives me an edge in round 6 when others have to bring him back in!

CHLOE WILLIAMS

IN: Sam Waardenburg, Majok Deng

OUT: Jack White, Lachie Olbrich

For now, I’m saying goodbye to Jack White and hello to Sam Waardenburg. I wanted Montrezl Harrell, but wasn’t keen on the one-week play when I can hold Waardenburg for his round 6 double. I do want to get White back, though, as it feels strange to trade him after two big captain scores, so there may be no point in holding Waardenburg. Moving on ...

I’ve also traded Lachie Olbrich to Majok Deng – purely to balance out the cash drop I’ll face with letting go of White, plus Lachie’s schedule is one of the worst. Tim, don’t copy me.

PATCH

IN: Kendric Davis, Tyler Robertson

OUT: Lachie Olbrich, Shea Ili

If anything proves my Not An Expert title, it’s deciding to start Ben Henshall over Shae Ili last week. Anywho the less said about that the better.

I need another DGW player this week, and with Taran Armstrong set to miss – who was my No.1 target – I’ve had to pivot to Kenny Davis. I chose Rob Edwards last week while wanting them both, and he’ll likely become PJC next week. I’m not expecting as many minutes from Robertson this week but if the Kings keep belting sides he might get a run.
