The Cleveland Cavaliers visited Barack Obama at the White House

THIS is Iman Shumpert’s face when Barack Obama uttered one word during the Cleveland Cavaliers’ visit to the White House.

Shumpert was in awe of Obama.

WE’RE going to level with you here: Barack Obama — or any US president for that matter — hasn’t invited us to the White House. Yet.

It’s unlikely that will happen anytime soon, sure, but hey, stranger things have happened. We think.

So we can’t say for certain how we’d react if we got within spitting distance of the most powerful man on the planet. Until January 2017, that is, when that mantle is taken over by Donald Trump.

Iman Shumpert probably didn’t know how he was going to respond when he got up close and personal with Obama, but it sure looks like he was impressed by what the 55-year-old had to offer.

Shumpert — along with the rest of his Cleveland Cavaliers teammates — visited the White House on Friday (AEST). It’s a longstanding custom, as the reigning NBA Champions always get the call up to take a look around 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington.

The Cavs earned the reward courtesy of their epic come-from-behind 4-3 win over the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals this year.

Obama, himself a huge basketball fan, wanted to make sure he grabbed the perfect photo with the Cavaliers camp, so he didn’t want a pesky lectern ruining the view from behind the lens. Being the world’s most influential man, it wasn’t a tough ask for him to have it moved. His wish was his team’s command, as aides made their way to the stage to get rid of the podium.

Shumpert could barely believe what he was seeing. Check out the 26-year-old’s reaction in the video below.

According to Shumpert himself, all the man who holds court in the Oval Office had to say was “team” for his people to spring into action. It was just too much.

Despite it no doubt being one of Obama’s more trying weeks in office, what with Republican Trump booking his ticket to the presidency next year, it’s nice to see he’s still got his sense of humour.

After winning the championship this year, Cavalier J.R. Smith needed no added motivation to party, but his shirt wasn’t invited along for the ride. He showed off his chest for days, going without any cover up top in the hours after their win, while he stepped off the plane in Cleveland showing off his pecs. He was also sans shirt at the victory parade.

So when he turned up to Obama’s residence fully clothed, POTUS was kind enough to applaud him for it.

“I want to give a special shout out to J.R. Smith’s shirt,” Obama said. “I wasn’t sure if it was going to make an appearance today. I’m glad you came, you’re a very nice shirt.”

This year Cleveland won the city’s first pro sports championship since 1964. A part of America seemingly cursed when it came to winning titles, the Cavs brought joy to a plethora of success-starved fans.

“This is a city that throughout sports history has been through a lot,” Obama said. “‘The Fumble’, ‘The Drive’, Jordan over Ehlo, a whole lot more.

“Cleveland was always ‘Believeland’. That’s why the Cavs have always given back to their fans and the community that’s been so loyal to them.

“Welcome to the White House and give it up for the world champion Cleveland Cavaliers. That’s right, I said world champion and Cleveland in the same sentence.

“That’s what we’re talking about when we talk about hope and change,” he added to laughter from the crowd.
