Adele says viral courtside meme was due to NBA ‘filming me against my will’

British singer Adele has taken aim at the NBA over a viral meme that took the internet by storm during an All Star Weekend.

Adele reflects on moment she became a viral meme at NBA game

Adele has revealed what led up to the moment she became a viral meme at a past NBA All-Star Game.

Two years ago, the singer was shown by TNT cameras looking visibly annoyed, and she recently explained the circumstances at a concert in Las Vegas.

“I’d like to give some context to that meme,” she said, adding that she attended the game with her boyfriend, Klutch Sports founder Rich Paul.

“I know it sounds crazy, but I really don’t like being famous, right? So obviously I know sitting courtside at a basketball game you’re asking for it, whatever, but Rich was like working the room and you know he was like talking to players and talking to people, and I was fine.”

She added with a laugh, “I was just there on my own, like looking for Michael Jordan, to be honest with you.”

Later, Adele revealed that the camera operators violated her wishes.

“But, the people with the camera came and asked me twice: They were like, ‘Do you mind if we film you, can we put you on the screen?’”

The singer said she politely requested they not after she had just postponed her residency in Las Vegas.

“They came back and they filmed me,” Adele said.

“So the reason my lips look like I had filler — because I’ve got actually-big lips, I don’t need filler — the reason I looked like a different person was because I was sulking.

“I was like, ‘These motherf***ers have come back and are filming me against my will’ so I [made a face]. I didn’t realise they were airing it on TV. I thought it was just in the room.”

She concluded: “Also, my face is just very meme-able. I can’t help it.”
