HOW THE AUSSIES FARED

Australian duo Dante Exum and Joe Ingles were pivotal in keeping the Utah Jazz in the contest against Detroit, with Utah triumphing by a single point after earlier trailing by double digits.

Ingles in particular was outstanding after coming off the bench, netting a pair of three-pointers almost immediately and finishing with three from three beyond the arc as he accumulated 10 points and three rebounds.

Exum was equally important, scoring nine points and having five assists without a single turnover as the Jazz came from five points down at three-quarter time to snatch the win.

Tellingly, the Jazz scored 11 more points than their opposition while Exum was on the floor — the highest differential of any player on the court.

The news wasn’t so great for Andrew Bogut, whose Golden State Warriors gave up a big three-quarter time lead to slump to a 105-97 loss against Phoenix.

Bogut had just four points and committed four turnovers in arguably his worst performance of the season.

The Warriors, who were the only team yet to lose this season, now sit at 5-1.

Cleveland Cavaliers fans are still reeling from the news that Matt Dellavedova will miss up to six weeks with a knee injury.

HEAT 105, MAVERICKS 96

Miami they further distanced themselves from last week’s two-game losing streak with a convincing 105-96 victory against the Dallas Mavericks.

Off-season acquisition Luol Deng scored a season-high 30 points while centre Chris Bosh had 20 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Dwyane Wade, playing in already his fourth back-to-back of the season, finished with 20 points on nine-of-18 shooting.

In all, the Heat had four players reach double figures, with guard Mario Chalmers contributing 18 off the bench.

It was Deng’s floating jumper in the third quarter that stopped the Mavs’ strongest rally. Dallas trimmed the Heat’s 11-point, half-time to lead to four on a dunk by centre Tyson Chandler. It revved the crowd at American Airlines Center, forcing Spoelstra to call a time-out.

As with every Mavs burst, the Heat had an answer. This time, it was Deng. After the break, he hit the shot in the lane on the Heat’s next possession. Not only did it temporarily cool the Mavs, it also was the start of a 9-0 Heat run. capped by another Deng jumper that made it 72-59.

RAPTORS 120, 76ERS 88

Philadelphia was again without post players Nerlens Noel and Malcolm Thomas in their 120-88 setback against the Toronto Raptors.

This result marked their worst loss since a 43-point belting by the Golden State Warriors on February 10.

“That was not us,” Sixers Australian coach Brett Brown said.

“We come in here and we got manhandled. We got jumped, and we didn’t have any answers.”

The blowout loss dropped the Sixers to 0-7 for the first time since they dropped their first 15 games during the 1972-73 season. Those Sixers went on to finish 9-73, setting the NBA futility record.
