ASHLEIGH Barty continues to make promising headway after the Queensland prodigy reached the quarter-finals in Eastbourne as bad weather impacted the French Open.
Barty, 19, is into the Eastbourne quarter-finals after overcoming injured Slovakian former top-tener Daniela Hantuchova 6-3 4-0.
Progressing in a session where Canberra’s Alison Bai lost 6-4 6-2 to Briton Tara Moore and Storm Sanders fell 6-1 7-5 to Croat talent Donna Vekic, Barty is revelling on English grass.
Sidelined from tennis for 17 months as she chased a cricket career, Barty again underlined her rich talent.
In Manchester, defending champion Sam Groth continued a strong run with a 6-3 3-6 6-4 result over local Liam Broady.
Sydney’s James Duckworth downed Slovenian Grega Zemlja 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 6-1 as Victorian Marino Matosevic lost to Sergiy Stakhovsky.
But Matt Reid scored an excellent 7-6 (7-1) 6-2 win over Russian Konstantin Kravchuk.
