YOU may recall that last May, an emotional Kevin Durant, while accepting the NBA MVP award, talked about his mother, saying, “We weren’t supposed to be here. You made us believe. You kept us off the street. You put clothes on our backs. You put food on the table. When you didn’t eat, you made sure we ate and [you] went to sleep hungry. You sacrificed for us. You’re the real MVP.”

That last line, “You’re the real MVP” quickly became internet fodder and one of the most popular sports memes ever was born.

All you have to do is a Google images search for “You the real MVP” and this a sampling of what you get.

In a new interview with GQ, Durant revealed that he is not a fan of the meme. At all.

“I was like, man, that was a real emotional moment for me, and you making a joke about it!” he the magazine. “Damn. Y’all don’t really believe in s — t. You don’t have no morals or nothing. You don’t care about nothing but just making fun ... I was serious as hell saying that, you know what I’m saying?”

Durant also discusses the importance of crying (”I think, as a nation, we need to cry with each other. As a world, we need to cry with each other. That shows we care.”), his loneliness (”Am I gonna be alone forever? Am I gonna have kids?”) and more.
