ERICK Green doesn’t answer his phone unless he knows the number. But the D-Leaguer’s cautious habit nearly cost him big time.

UTAH’S Erick Green signed a 10-day contract with the Jazz on Tuesday afternoon. But he almost didn’t find out about his new job because he screens his telephone calls.

“I found out late last night, like 10:30 or something,” Green said.

“I didn’t answer the phone for the first two calls because I don’t answer the phone if I don’t know your number. That’s just how I always am. I didn’t answer it. My agent called me. He was like: ‘Answer your phone. Utah is calling.’ So I answered it real fast then. I picked up the phone. They told me they were excited to have me. I couldn’t even sleep last night ... Just so excited to be here.”

Green, 24, played 46 games with one start during two seasons with the Denver Nuggets. There, he averaged 3.2 points per game before he was waived on November 5. Green was also part of the trade that landed Utah star centre Rudy Gobert on draft night. Watch him tell his unique story about re-joining the Jazz, below.

The former Virginia Tech standout has most recently played with the Reno Bighorns. There, he averaged 26.7 points per game with 4.4 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals.

Green has scored 20-plus points in 19 of his 23 games. He’s the 13th NBA D-League call-up of the 2015-16 seasons. He becomes Utah’s 15th roster player.
