The Kardashian curse looks set to strike down another star athlete
THE ‘Kardashian curse’ is real, it’s a thing, it has brought a slew of high profile athletes to their knees — and it looks like it might have struck again.
NEW York Giants coach Ben McAdoo can only hope Odell Beckham Jr.’s reported romance with Khloe Kardashian doesn’t turn into a full-blown distraction by the time the 2016 regular season arrives.
Beckham, 23, and Kardashian, 31, were pictured in shots posted by TMZ cuddling at a party hosted by the rapper Drake in Hidden Hills, Calif., on Memorial Day. So-called eyewitnesses said the two “looked like a couple.” Another report said they were “making out.”
Beckham did not show up in East Rutherford, NJ, on Wednesday for the Giants’ voluntary off-season training activity, and a few eyebrows were raised around the Giants because of the Kardashians’ well-documented history with athletes.
Khloe recently filed for divorce for the second time from Lamar Odom, the former NBA player, who nearly died during a weekend of drinking and drugs in a Nevada brothel. She also dated James Harden, the Houston Rockets guard, before breaking it off, accusing Harden of not being monogamous. Other athletes caught in the Kardashian web include former Nets forward Kris Humphries, who was booed in every arena for no reason after his short marriage to Kim Kardashian; and Reggie Bush, whose NFL career has been on a steep decline since he won a Super Bowl ring with the Saints in 2010.
McAdoo didn’t seem concerned about the Kardashian curse targeting Beckham, the Giants’ Pro Bowl wide receiver.
“They’re grown men,” he said. “You have to trust players with their personal lives and the decisions they make. If they ask for advice, we’ll certainly be willing to lend a hand.”
It’s not clear what advice McAdoo, a straight-laced football coach, can offer Beckham about keeping up with the Kardashians. The reality television stars are mainstays of gossip pages and entertainment sections, and a Beckham-Khloe pairing will keep TMZ and Twitter buzzing.
No doubt dating Kardashian also would raise Beckham’s profile even higher. But at what price?
New York has seen this kind of thing before. Giants punter Sean Landeta once brought the Penthouse Pet of the Year to a training camp practice, and a Jets season was destroyed when Mark Gastineau got involved with actor Brigitte Nielsen. Ask Mike Tyson whether Robin Givens sabotaged his career.
It was unclear why Beckham missed practice on Wednesday, though a series of messages on his Twitter account suggest his dog may have died.

“I don’t think there’s anything positive when someone can’t be here. We’d like to have everyone here,” McAdoo said while confirming Beckham told the team he would be absent. The coach added Beckham’s attendance had been “outstanding otherwise.”
The Giants receiving corps is dominated by young, unproven players who could use some veteran leadership even this early in the summer. Victor Cruz is still working on the sidelines recovering from knee and calf injuries and won’t see team drills until training camp begins in July.
