FROM Kim K to Snoop Dogg, these are the best (and worst) TV ads of Super Bowl XLIX.
FROM Kim K to Snoop Dogg, these are the best (and worst) TV ads of Super Bowl XLIX, to be watched by 170 million people worldwide.
Wix.com — It’s That Easy
By his own admission, former NFL star Terrell Owens is pretty lucky to be in this ad.
“Of all the guys that are in the commercial, myself, Emmit Smith, Franco Harris, Larry Allen and Brett Favre shoot, I’m the only guy who doesn’t have a Super Bowl ring,” Owens told Fox Sports. But he forgot that Lloyd, the character from hit TV show Entourage that also features in the ad, hasn’t won one either.
In Australia for the Super Bowl, Owens can’t wait to see the website design ad during the game. “It’s a fun commercial, it’s going to air in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl so I’m looking forward to it.”
Eat24 — Hangry
Veteran rapper Snoop Dogg is on a mission to end the curse of ‘hangry’ — the erratic emotional state of being angry and hungry. So with the help of the legendary Gilbert Gottfried, Snoop is doing his bit with Eat24.
NoMore.org — Domestic Violence PSA
This is probably one of the more ballsy ad campaigns to run during Super Bowl XLIX. Not because it tries to be funny, or clever, but because it tackles the uncomfortable issue of domestic violence in a subtle yet powerful way. And the NFL is no stranger to domestic violence. This ad makes a strong statement.
NASCAR — America Start Your Engines
Parks & Recreation star Nick Offerman drops some real talk on Americans who have lost their way in the modern world. In a very catchy song and dance Offerman humorously convinces you to “get some Nascar in your life” and “bump and grind in a non-sexual way” on NBC Sports. There’s a lot of red, white and blue American pride in this one.
Bud Light — Real Life PacMan
Can it be done? Well Bud Light made it happen. One lucky man (who they try to convince us is a totally randomly selected bar-goer) stumbles upon a party filled with attractive people all waiting to see him play PacMan in real life. It’s a pretty cool concept, but kind of makes us wish this was an actual thing everyone could do. Are you listening, theme park owners?
T-Mobile — Kim’s Data Stash
That reality TV starlet, famous for nothing but somehow in everything Kim Kardashian, knows she’s vain. And now she’s making money of what most people used to see as a major character flaw. Not in ‘Merica. For T-Mobile she makes a plea to those needlessly wasting unused phone data that could be used seeing her on social media doing any number of useless things.
Budweiser — ‘Lost Dog’
Well, they did it. If they wanted to make grown ups cry, they totally did it. This one from the beer company really pulls at the heart strings, but who wouldn’t want to watch when a cute puppy in strife is involved? Homeward Bound, Milo & Otis, The Fox & The Hound — there’s a reason those films were big hits, and Budweiser knows it. Animal friendships are very real. Pass the kleenex.
Kia — The Perfect Getaway
You know him best as the best James Bond of the 1990s, and actor Pierce Brosnan hams it up in that iconic role for this ad. At 61, he still looks debonair as ever too.
Progressive — Marshawn Lynch Interview
Seattle’s Marshawn Lynch will feature both in the broadcast of the Super Bowl game and in the ads. The notoriously tight-lipped running back appears in a spoof ‘exclusive interview’ with ESPN’s Kenny Mayne talking about his appreciation for Progressive Insurance’s, Flo.
HONOURABLE MENTION
Doritos — Manchild
This was the last Aussie entry left standing as one of ten finalists in the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl ad competition. ‘Manchild’ brilliantly captures the transformation one goes through, from an adult into a tantrum-prone child, when those munchies take hold. Too real.
