IT’S been a crazy few weeks for New England’s unlikely Super Bowl hero Malcolm Butler. But he’s finally been awarded Tom Brady’s MVP prize.

After defeating the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX, Butler was quick to give back to the Patriots faithful, visiting sick kids in a Boston hospital.

Everyone is familiar with the common post-Super Bowl victory phrase “I’m going to Disneyland”, and Butler made that a reality after hoisting the Vince Lombardi trophy.

Butler and teammate Julian Edelman both took part in the theme park’s parade with Mickey Mouse.

Then to top it all off Butler was on stage at the Grammys this week to present an award.

And now, after a whirlwind couple of weeks, Butler has finally received the Super Bowl MVP Chevy that was given to him by New England quarterback Tom Brady.

But there was no shame in this very public re-gifting.

Without Butler’s crucial interception in the dying seconds of the game, the Patriots would not have won the franchise’s fourth Super Bowl title.

“We’ve been on the other end of this two times in the last seven years, being ahead late in the game with the chance to win it, and not closing it out,” Brady said of Super Bowl losses in 2008 and 2012 to the New York Giants.

“I’m glad we had the opportunity to do it.

“It happened so quick.

“There was a lot of highs and lows to the game and that was a great high. Malcolm made a huge play to save our season. It took a lot of guys, a lot of effort and a lot of individual efforts. Collectively as a team, we made plays to get the job done.”

For a guy who was last working at Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen and playing division II college football before he was picked up by New England as a free agent, that’s a pretty excellent end to a rookie season in the NFL.
