Mills channels Hoges in new TV ad series

POPULAR Australian point guard Patty Mills may still be sidelined from San Antonio’s NBA championship defence but he has been getting mileage in a series of new TV advertisements.

Mills, who had shoulder surgery after the Spurs claimed the 2013-14 NBA championship from Miami, appears with star teammates Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Kawhi Leonard in a new series of commercials for grocery store chain HEB.

The ads poke gentle fun at his Australian accent, one of the many aspects to the Boomers’ 2012 London Olympics top scorer’s rampant popularity in Texas.

One sees him put a twist on Paul Hogan’s iconic “throw another shrimp on the barbie” ad, while another sees him talking about Greek yoghurt.

Still not expected to play before January, Mills was on court this week doing defensive drills with teammates.
