Meet No. 1 Draft pick Trevor Lawrence and his wife Marissa

To nobody’s surprise, quarterback Trevor Lawrence has been snapped up by Jacksonville Jaguars to become the No. 1 pick at the NFL Draft.

American quarterback Trevor Lawrence has officially been anointed the No. 1 pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, snapped up by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday morning AEDT.

It’s been presumed since the end of the 2018 college football season — when Lawrence quarterbacked the Clemson Tigers to the national title as a true freshman — that he would be the No. 1 pick in this year’s Draft, his first year of eligibility.

Therefore, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell’s announcement in Cleveland was more of a formality than a shock.

“It’s awesome,” Lawrence said after the announcement. “It’s like a weight’s been lifted off my shoulders ...excited to be part of the Jacksonville community.

“I’m not expecting anything to be handed to me ... I want to go down there and prove I can lead this team.”

The 21-year-old is widely considered one of the most talented college quarterbacks to emerge in decades, already being mentioned in the same breath as NFL icons Peyton Manning and John Elway.

Lawrence is the first top-three draft pick ever out of Clemson and the third first-round quarterback from his alma mater, joining Deshaun Watson (2017) and Steve Fuller (1979).

He is the fourth straight quarterback drafted No. 1 overall, following Baker Mayfield (2018), Kyler Murray (2019) and Joe Burrow (2020). The only longer streak in NFL history happened when five straight quarterbacks were taken No. 1 from 2001-05.

At 1.98m and 100kg, the long-haired phenom has a powerful arm, rare deep-ball accuracy and poise in the pocket.

During his stellar college career, he secured 34 wins and only two defeats — both coming in the playoffs.

Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said: “All the research we’ve done, you’re always looking for the stars to align when you’re looking at prospects, whether that be from a physical, mental, character aspect, whatever the case may be. With his situation, like many others in this draft, the stars all align.”

After years of rebuffing interest from the NFL, veteran coach Urban Meyer finally bit at the chance to come out of retirement.

But the lure was bigger than a monster contract and a chance to return to the area where he is renowned for winning two national titles as coach at the University of Florida — it was the opportunity to coach Lawrence.

Meanwhile, the New York Jets made a move to solve their quarterback issue, taking Zach Wilson out of BYU, before the San Francisco 49ers stunned everyone by selecting Trey Lance out of North Dakota State with the third overall pick, instead of Mac Jones.

Who is Trevor Lawrence’s wife?

Trevor met his wife Marissa in eighth grade, but puppy-love sparks flew while attending Cartersville High School in Georgia.

There was a month-long period when the lovebirds split during their freshman year of college, when Lawrence was at Clemson University in South Carolina and Mowry attended nearby Anderson University.

Eventually, the pair found a way to make it work — the two schools are only a half-hour drive apart.

Marissa started playing soccer at the age of 5 and, while at college between 2018 and 2020, was a midfielder for the Anderson Trojans.

With her movie-star looks, a spectacular figure and her background studying PR in college, it’s no surprise the brunette model likes to promote herself online.

Marissa has nearly 300,000 followers on Instagram, where she features glamorous shots of her with Trevor, Bible verses and musings about her religion, as well as cutesy pictures with her girlfriends and family.
