Beckham had spent the last three seasons with the Cleveland Browns before essentially forcing his way off of the team last week.

It ends an uneasy relationship, after the Browns nabbed Beckham Jr. a year in to a five year $US95 million ($A122 million) deal with $US65 million ($A88 million) guaranteed — the then biggest contract ever signed by a receiver.

He is reportedly interested in signing with the Seahawks, 49ers or Saints, with Seattle being the preferred landing spot.

An ESPN report indicated that Beckham preferred free agency over being claimed on waivers.

Beckham was originally drafted in the first round by the Giants in 2014 before being traded to Cleveland five years later.

Prior to Friday’s release from the Browns, Beckham had been excused from two straight practices after the team couldn’t deal him to another club ahead of Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.

Beckham’s father also caused something of a social media stir last week in which he appeared to blame Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield for the receiver’s less-than-stellar season. Beckham Sr. shared an 11-minute Instagram video last Tuesday that chronicled the number of times his son wasn’t thrown the ball during games.

As for Mayfield, who threw for two touchdowns and 218 in Sunday’s win over the Bengals, he wishes pal Beckham nothing but the best moving forward.

“I wish him well, I really do. My feelings haven’t changed,” Mayfield said of Beckham after throwing for two touchdowns and 218 yards in the victory. “From a personal standpoint, he’s a good friend of mine. … But I’m worried about the guys in our locker room. I’m proud of these guys, how they were able to focus up despite all the bulls – t that was going on this week and how they were able to do their job. We’re going to see if we can build on it and continue to get better.”
