JARRYD Hayne has enjoyed a stunning start to his second NFL game.
After amassing 84 yards on three punt returns in the first quarter, the Australian superstar then took the field only briefly — much to the disappointment of fans — in the second.
Regardless, going into halftime the 27-year-old had taken major steps toward his goal of becoming an NFL player — and both of them lefts.
On both his second and third returns in the first quarter, Hayne produced massive left-foot steps to evade the first defender and run 34 yards and 23 yards respectively.
Ironically, Hayne’s second return was from a punt kicked by fellow Aussie Tom Hornsey — a Melburnian on the Dallas Cowboys team.
Still, it was his first catch of the day that was arguably his best.
Apart from taking the ball in his fingertips, while running backwards, the Minto product returned the ball almost 30 yards to bring the Levi’s Stadium crowd to its feet.
Such were his efforts, you could generally feel the excitement inside the Stadium build whenever he got himself underneath the ball.
Niners fans are quickly falling in love with the Hayne story and desperately want to see him make the final roster.
