SAN Francisco 49ers coach Jim Tomsula has praised Jarryd Hayne for the courage he has shown to go overseas and chase his dream and said he’s “making a great case” to be part of the team’s final 53-man roster.

While Tomsula continues to advise caution about the hype surrounding the young Australian, he was complimentary when asked for his views on Hayne’s performance against the Dallas Cowboys.

Three amazing punt returns and eight crunching runs from the back field will be played over and over again as part of Hayne’s NFL highlight reel as once again he set the sporting world ablaze.

With back to back ‘no worries mate’ performances (as the announcers put it) from Hayne, the fullback turned running back has earned the admiration from his colleagues, especially San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula.

“Having the guts to leave what he knew. He walked away from all that to come do this,” Tomsula said.

“That’s what makes this thing special to me.”

An astounding 20 press passes were given to Australian journalists at Levi’s Stadium and Tomsula understands why he has become a huge deal.

“You’ve got a guy who has never played the game. To be in the conversation for making a 53 man roster on an NFL football team when you’ve never played football. There’s the story. That just speaks for who he is.”

Tomsula was vital in helping Hayne commit to his transition from Rugby League to American football.

He spent nine season in NFL Europe teaching players and coaches the X’s and O’x of football even though it wasn’t their national sport.

When it comes to Hayne, it seems Tomsula may have found the perfect student.

“Seeing him in those tight areas and being able to make the cuts when everything is very condensed. Those improvements are continuous; he’s done that from the day he’s got here.

He’s on a road doing things, and it really is good but we’ve still got a ways to go.

He’s making a great case for himself.”

The 49ers and Hayne will continue their preseason next week against when they head on the road to face Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.
