‘Horrible’ change to Hollywood sign ruthlessly mocked by NFL fans

The Hollywood sign has been revamped in celebration of the LA Rams’ Super Bowl triumph, but not everyone was impressed.

The Hollywood sign has been revamped in celebration of the Los Angeles Rams’ Super Bowl triumph, with the landmark temporarily reading as “Rams House” this week.

On Monday AEDT, the Rams toppled the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 at California’s SoFi Stadium to claim its first Super Bowl championship in 22 years.

The rollercoaster battle came down to the final 30 seconds after a series of questionable referee decisions saw the Rams take the lead with less than 90 seconds remaining.

Los Angeles took advantage of the referee calls to go ahead on the scoreboard, and their defence held strong to stop the Bengals from scoring a miracle last-minute victory.

As the celebrations got underway in Los Angeles, the iconic Hollywood sign was given a makeover to mark the historic occasion.

“This town has the best teams and fans in the world, and we can’t wait to show off our LA pride with a display that only Hollywood could deliver,” Mayor Eric Garcetti said in a statement.

However, NFL fans couldn’t resist poking fun at the sign for a colour shading clash that made the white letters difficult to read.

From a distance, it was almost indecipherable.

Social media users were quick to point out the pro-marijuana pranksters who changed the Hollywood sign to “Hollyweed” five years ago did a better renovation job.

According to the Mayor’s office, the Rams paid for the temporary installation, which will come down on Thursday AEDT.

Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff thanked local authorities for allowing the franchise to “recognise this historic championship by turning the iconic Hollywood sign into a celebration of our fans and our community”.

“Winning a Super Bowl for Los Angeles and our fans in our home stadium is a dream come true,” he said.

Rams victory parade celebrations

The streets of LA were overtaken by rowdy football fans after the Rams won its second Super Bowl title.

Images of celebrating fans, videos of fireworks being fired off in the streets and wild celebrations flooded social media.

Amid the wild scenes, the Los Angeles Police Department declared an unlawful assembly after “violent and destructive” Los Angeles Rams fans wreaked havoc on downtown streets.

“We are seeing violent and destructive behaviour by large crowds in the heart of the Downtown LA area,” the LAPD wrote on Twitter.

“We have issued several dispersal orders and have a large police presence. Everyone that is part of those crowds, obey all dispersal orders and clear the streets immediately.”

Later, another tweet said there was still “large, violent and destructive crowds”, adding: “Those involved in criminal activity, and those failing to obey dispersal orders, are subject to arrest.”

Police also reportedly cleared a parking garage and bars in the local area as well.
