It went from ecstasy to agony for Australian punter Arryn Siposs as he was injured while producing a superb athletic play in the NFL on Monday (AEDT).

The Philadelphia Eagles punter went to kick the ball deep inside but his punt was charged down.

But Siposs improvised, chasing after the loose ball inside his own end zone and scooping it up, nearly salvaging a first down for the Eagles.

Unfortunately he was tackled over the sideline by the New York Giants defence and injured in the process.

Siposs was carted off the field at MetLife Stadium on a medicab and he appeared to cop some abuse from unsympathetic Giants fans in the stands, which he didn’t appreciate.

“F*** you. F*** you, you piece of s***,” astute lip-readers caught him say to the crowd.

Siposs was spotted in the change rooms after the game wearing a boot on his foot and using crutches for what’s believed to be an ankle injury.

It wasn’t Siposs’ first highlight play of the season either. In September he was showered with praise after pulling off a touchdown-saving tackle after a blocked field goal attempt.

Australian punters are taking the NFL and college football by storm and Siposs’ play evoked memories of when Michael Dickson wowed fans with a rare double punt play last season.

Siposs played for St Kilda in the AFL before making the switch to American football in 2016 and playing college football with Auburn.

Last year the 30-year-old made his debut for the Eagles, where he is on the same roster as fellow Aussie Jordan Mailata, who plays at offensive tackle.

As for the game itself, Jalen Hurts threw for two touchdowns and ran for another as the Philadelphia beat the Giants 48-22 and became the NFL’s first playoff qualifier.

Miles Sanders ran 17 times for 144 yards and two touchdowns while Hurts completed 21-of-31 passes for 217 yards and ran seven times for 77 yards.

The Eagles improved to an NFL-best 12-1 to secure their fifth playoff bid in six seasons but their goal is a championship, not just a playoff spot.

“We’re trying to stay focused,” Hurts said.

“The reality is we’re never satisfied so I think there is more out there for us to do.”

Hurts, who threw touchdown tosses of 41 yards to DeVonta Smith and 33 yards to A.J. Brown and ran 10 yards for another touchdown, has stressed consistency and improvement for a team that won the 2018 Super Bowl and started 8-0 for the first time in club history.
