A STAR NFL quarterback has made good on a promise to his mum to return to school and finish his degree.

Carolina Panthers hero Cam Newton is back in the school halls of Auburn University to complete his sociology degree during the NFL off-season.

In 2010 Newton led Auburn to a college football national championship. As an in demand quarterback he left school and became the no. 1 pick in the 2011 NFL draft.

But when he became a top quarterback on a $22 million four-year deal, he didn’t forget his vow to his mother.

Newton still requires a few course credits in order to graduate from Auburn, so that’s exactly what he’s set out to get. And naturally, it’s caused a bit of a frenzy on campus.

But Newton has been doing this for a few off-seasons now.

Last year his classmates sung him a One Direction song and in 2013 he bought his study buddies doughnuts.

So he’s used to the attention, and seems happy enough to pose for photos with ecstatic Auburn fans.

It’s not all smiles though.

Newton was also snapped in a class, looking far from stimulated by the course.

Stick it out, Cam. For yo mumma.
