NFL: Green Bay Packers fans could wait more than 1200 years for season tickets
THINK the 40-year waiting list for a Melbourne Cricket Club membership is crazy? Try waiting 1200 years for season tickets for an NFL team.
THINK the 40-year waiting list for a Melbourne Cricket Club membership is crazy?
Try waiting more than 1200 years for season tickets for one particular NFL team.
The MCC last week revealed it hoped to cut the time people waited for a restricted membership to no more than 25 years.
It currently has membership of 103,000 but has a further 233,000 people on the waiting list, with a 10,000 new fans adding their names to the list each year, which in some cases has pushed the waiting time out beyond 40 years.
But that’s positively speedy in comparison to diehard fans of the Green Bay Packers, who would potentially have to wait around 1200 years to secure a coveted season ticket if they signed up today.
The Packers’ season ticket waiting list for their home games at Lambeau Field in Wisconsin currently has around 110,000 people on it, which is incredible in itself, given Green Bay itself is home to only 100,000 people.
Problem is, only 90 tickets become available each year, with current ticketholders desperate to retain the privilege, even though a pair of season tickets costs around $2400 for just seven games, not to mention the one-off $4200 fee for the right to purchase the tickets in the first place.
On the plus side, places on the waiting list can be passed on or inherited, meaning that you won’t be able to enjoy the view from the corner of the end zone, but your great-great-grandkids might.
