It takes a lot to overshadow LeBron James and Steph Curry going head-to-head in an NBA Playoff series, but a viral sensation may just have done the job.

The all-Californian Conference Semi-Final clash in currently 3-2 to the Lakers after the side’s 121-106 win on Thursday (Australian time).

But while the Lakers currently sit in the box seat as the series returns to LA’s Crypto.com Arena for game six, they may just want to watch their backs.

In the great tradition of prophetic animals going all the way back to Paul the Octopus, who would predict the winners of international football matches between 2008 and 2010, including going 12 from 14 at the 2010 World Cup, there may be a new prophet on the scene.

The TikTok channel @AirCorg shows the unique talents of a basketball playing corgi.

Air Corg, who also identifies as “Steph Furry” and “Fluffy Mamba” according the bio on the TikTok account, predicts matches and series by bouncing a basketball into a basket.

However, the Lakers and Warriors series has so far gone exactly how Air Corg has predicted — and Air Corg predicts that Golden State will keep its title defence going with a 4-3 series win.

The prediction went Lakers (LA won 117-112), Warriors (Golden State won 127-100), Lakers (LA won 127-97), Lakers (LA won 104-101) and Warriors (Golden State won 121-106) with the final two going to the Warriors.

The video has been seen 6.3m times on TikTok and another 9m times on Twitter with one fan asking “what’s this witchcraft?”

Of course, it’s all just a bit of fun — Air Corg hasn’t been quite as accurate in other series’ getting two of the five games in the Philadelphia 76ers 3-2 lead over the Boston Celtics, three from five in the Miami Heat’s 3-2 lead over the New York Knicks and four from five in the Nuggets series against the Suns (Denver lead 3-2).

Air Corg could be right on in the Lakers-Warriors series, particularly as Lakers centre Anthony Davis was forced to leave game five after taking an accidental elbow to the head from Warriors centre Kevon Looney.

Turner Sports’ Chris Hayne reported that Davis was being assessed for concussion and revealed Davis was brought into the locker room in a wheelchair.

However, he later added: “Davis “appears to have avoided a concussion and is doing better now”.

Lakers coach Darvin Ham told reporters that Davis was “doing really good already”, having checked in on his star before his press conference.

If there aren’t delayed symptoms, it appears as though Davis should be able to return for game 6 if cleared by the Lakers.

He had been having a strong game with 21 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

But the Warriors are chasing history, as only 13 NBA teams have rallied from 3-1 down to win a series.

The Warriors did it against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2016 Western Conference finals — then a Cleveland Cavaliers team led by LeBron James did the same against them in the NBA Finals.

“Coming into this game, we just wanted to win one, give ourselves a chance, knowing that we have a big game six down in LA and we obviously need that one to stay alive,” Warriors star Stephen Curry told broadcaster TNT.

Curry scored 27 points to lead six Warriors players in double figures. Andrew Wiggins scored 25 points and Draymond Green delivered a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds.

However, it won’t be easy as the Lakers are so far unbeaten at home this post-season.
