US reacts to Anthony Davis clipping his toe nails on court
The NBA pre-season is over but before the real competition starts, the first outrage of the season has gone after Lakers star Anthony Davis.
The NBA’s 2020-21 opening tip hasn’t even happened yet but already Lakers star Anthony Davis has caused a stir.
The former New Orleans Pelican’s move to LA paid off perfectly last year as he teamed up with LeBron James to break a 10-year drought in Los Angeles as the Lakers won a 17th title.

But while Davis, a seven-time NBA All-Star and four-time All-NBA first team superstar, has designs on becoming the best player in the league, he might have to get used to every action on and off the court being scrutinised.
He got a taste of this earlier this week in the Lakers’ 114-113 pre-season win over the Phoenix Suns.
Davis helped the Lakers continue a perfect pre-season record as he piled on 35 points, six rebounds and three assists in 30 minutes.
But it was a moment in the second quarter when he was on the bench that captured America’s attention as he clipped his nails on the side of the court.
While several people were disgusted by the act, Davis was clearly in some pain, taking a deep breath before he cut his nails — but he still had the foresight to lay a towel down.
If Davis can bring another title to LA, he will be forgiven but the man who signed a five-year $190 million extension during the off-season had social media and the media quick to pounce on the footage.
“Yeah, I’m done. See y’all on opening night,” one fan wrote while others questioned why he didn’t go to the change rooms or labelled it “disgusting asf”.
Iâve watched a lot of NBA basketball in my life, donât think Iâve ever seen this before. https://t.co/PaLdcWVYpD

The New York Post had a story headlined: “Anthony Davis shocks fans with ‘disgusting’ act during Lakers game”
Hot New Hip Hopand Clutch Pointssuggested the trim was just what he needed as he turned a scrappy start of the game into a game high rampage as the Lakers came back to claim the win.
But Deadspintook aim at the outrage, calling it “miles better and more tactful than what most people in the Big Apple have seen on the subway”.
After a year of COVID, destruction and mayhem, it’s nice to have some inconsequential outrage back.
