NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal touches down in Australia

Shaquille O’Neal has arrived in Australia for the first time in decades, mingling with locals in Melbourne as he gears up for a speaking tour.

Shaquille O’Neal has arrived in Melbourne on Tuesday as he prepares to take Australia by storm this week.

The four-time NBA champion is visiting Australia for the first time in more than 20 years and announced his arrival tweeting: “I’m here in the land down undaa.”

After touching down in a private jet, the 50-year-old was spotted shopping at Greenvale in Melbourne’s north, where he posed for photos with local fans.

O’Neal, who won three NBA title playing alongside Kobe Bryant and another at the Miami Heat, is in Australia for a speaking event this week.

He will catch up with AFL great Jonathan Brown and Newcastle Knights great Matty Johns on Wednesday.

The marquee moment on O’Neal’s Australian tour will see him appear at a sold-out event and fan experience at Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena on Thursday.

The 216cm basketball legend will be interviewed by Fox Sports’ Mark Howard, where he will be offering unplugged and uncensored conversations about his life and decorated career as an NBA superstar, TV host, business mogul and DJ.

As his alter ego DJ Diesel, O’Neal will perform a gig at Melbourne nightclub 170 Russell on Wednesday where he will be supported by yscu, Big Boss, Miicha, CHENDA, and Balaram.

He will also be making an appearance at the Culture Kings store in Melbourne before heading to Sydney, where he will perform a DJ set at The Star’s Marquee nightclub on Saturday.

Five lucky fans will be able to win a chance to go up against Shaq in a live shoot out at the Star to see who can sink the most baskets.

The winner of the shootout will get to participate in a personal meet and greet with the star.

The Melbourne event will be screened on Main Event, available on Foxtel and Kayo Sports.
