NBA Briefs | Lizzo’s twerk steals Lakers attention, Luka Doncic beats Michael Jordan

Grammy-nominated musician Lizzo has proven a headliner even at the NBA, stealing the attention even as the action got under way on the court.

Lizzo’s twerk steals Lakers attention

The LA Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves may have been the star attraction on the court but Grammy nominated star Lizzo stole the show.

While LeBron James and Anthony Davis’ Lakers took on Karl Anthony Towns’ Timberwolves, Lizzo was sitting courtside.

The sassy star was enjoying the perks of front row seats and was even stopped for an interview.

“Let me tell you something, both teams are great,” she began when asked who she was cheering for. “I’m personally cheering for 32.”

When asked if she meant Towns, she replied with “mmhmm”.

“That’s my baby,” she said before admitting that she’s never met the Timberwolves centre.

But the star really let loose when the Laker girls danced to her song “Juice” during a time-out. As they strutted their stuff, Lizzo got into it too, revealing her thong as she twerked along to the music.

While it appeared that she had pulled her dress up, a video of Lizzo entering the stadium showed her dress had the back cut out.

But it had fans drawing parallels to former WWE wrestler Rikishi.

Social media was quick to react with the world seemingly split on the action.

On the court, it was a big Lakers win as LA won 142-125 on the back of 50 points from Davis and 32 from LeBron.

DONCIC ECLIPSES MJ MARK

If it seemed like Slovenian NBA star Luka Doncic was having a good start to the season, his latest record shows just how good he’s been.

The 20-year-old has scored 27 points, eight assists and seven rebounds to record his 19th straight game with at least 20-5-5.

The tally has seen the Dallas Mavericks star go past Michael Jordan to hold the record.

The NBA’s reigning rookie of the year appears to have the MVP award in his sights and has been red hot to start the year.

But Doncic didn’t have it all his own way, missing a tying attempt in the final seconds as the Sacramento Kings defeated the Mavericks 110-106.

The Kings’ Richaun Holmes rebounded Doncic’s tying attempt but heaped praise on the young gun.

“We all see how great Luka is so you just try to do as much as you can to take him out his comfort zone,” Holmes said.

Doncic did lose his cool throughout the game, including yelling at the officials as he left the court at the end of the game.

“I’m passionate for the game,” Doncic said.

“I want to win, and I just sometimes get out of control, because I want to win the whole time. I’m competitive. You can ask my family. Even if it’s not basketball, if it’s anything, I’m so competitive. But yeah, I’ve got to work on that for sure.

“I know how to (approach officials), but like I say, I’m passionate. I know a lot of times I’m wrong. Persons are wrong sometimes, and I’ve just got to learn to calm myself down and go to the next play.”
