Eagle-eyed fans discover hidden detail in new 76ers jersey

Ben Simmons’ Philadelphia 76ers unveiled a brand new jersey for the upcoming season and fans were quick to spot a key detail.

The Philadelphia 76ers unveiled their brand new city edition jersey’s on Wednesday with eagle-eyed fans quick to point out a hidden detail.

For years the diehard fan base had to endure season upon season of losing as the organisation opted to tank and rebuild with top draft picks.

The entire saga became known by the phrase “Trust the Process”, a calling card for fans to hold on to as the dire seasons dragged on.

Eventually the good times would come as the team picked up Joel Embiid and Aussie superstar Ben Simmons to lead them back up the Eastern Conference standings.

But as they unveiled the new jerseys they’ll wear this season, fans couldn’t help but point out the potentially hidden TPP etched into the city skyline.

After years of trusting the process, the 76ers have failed to cash in on their wealth of top draft picks.

Over the past three seasons they’ve only won two playoff series, never once reaching the Conference Finals and in 2020 were swept out of the first round by the Boston Celtics.

With a roster full of bloated salaries and a mix of stars that showed they’re not a great fit, the 76ers are in need of change.

Incoming general manager Daryl Morey isn’t afraid to make bold moves, with the 76ers reportedly showing interest in trying to lure Houston’s James Harden away.

“I’m told Philadelphia is expected to be interested in and pursue James Harden, the Rockets star who Daryl Morey has a history with,” The Athletic’s Shams Charania said. “But as will other teams also express interest.”

“As of right now, it is an emphatic ‘no’ from the Rockets side,” Charania added. “It’s really a non-starter for that organisation.”

This led many to believe it was Simmons who would be offered up in any potential trade to try and land Harden.

“But the wealth of talents that Harden has far outweighs that of Simmons,” Dan Roche wrote for NBC Sports. “While Harden can’t approach Simmons’ defensive abilities, the Sixers point guard simply can’t do what Harden can do offensively. He may never be able to.”

The salary cap ($109.1 million) and luxury tax ($132.7 million) will remain the same next season. In future seasons, the cap and tax will increase by a minimum of 3 percent — and a maximum of 10 percent, sources said.

On Tuesday the NBA announced the upcoming dates for the 2021 season which, due to COVID-19, will be a shortened 72-game season.

The 2020 NBA Draft will be on November 19 with the start of Free Agency to commence two days later.

The 2020-21 NBA season will officially get underway just days before Christmas with the opening day being December 23.
