Aussie NBA star Ben Simmons has gone public with his support of US presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Simmons joined the growing number of NBA stars to speak out against President Donald Trump, urging his followers on Twitter to vote for the Democratic running pair of Biden and Kamala Harris when the country goes to the polling booths next month.

Simmons posted a video on his social media accounts Saturday (AEST) during Game 2 of the NBA Finals urging his home-town Philadelphia fans to vote Trump out of office.

“Sixers fans, Pennsylvania is one of the states that will decide this election,” Simmons said.

“The road to the White House begins here. Donald Trump won this state by less than one point in 2016 and we cannot let that happen again.

“Joe Biden is the president we need to take on COVID-19, fight for equality and build this country back better than ever before.

“Your voice matters and we need to hear it on November third.”

Simmons passionate plea comes after repeated outspoken comments trashing Trump’s leadership during his first term.

Simmons in July posted a scathing message on Twitter in which he labelled Trump “cowardly”.

“This is not what a leader looks like,” Simmons posted.

“His actions and cold words are cowardly. Do not allow these messages of hate and divide draw your attention away from the REAL goal of UNITY and EQUALITY which is achieved through LOVE and COMPASSION. I love y’all, stay safe.”

Simmons in 2017 also described Trump as a “d***head” during an interview with Fox Sports News in Australia.

“I think he’s an idiot,” Simmons said.

“If we were in Australia right now, a lot of people would call him a d***head, and that’s how I personally feel.”

Trump has also had an ongoing war of words with NBA superstar LeBron James after the Lakers star said he would reject an invitation to be received at the White House with Trump if his Cleveland team won the NBA Championship that year.
