WASHINGTON WIZARDS 103 — ORLANDO MAGIC 91
John Wall scored 24 points with 13 assists, Otto Porter had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and the Washington Wizards extended their dominance over the Orlando Magic with a 103-91 victory Friday night.
The Wizards won their 11th straight game over the improving Magic, who entered with a 13-5 record since Nov. 25, best in the Eastern Conference.
Wall had 12 points in the fourth quarter and Kris Humphries scored 11, all in the final period. Humphries’ jumper with 7:38 to play started the Wizards on a 15-3 run that gave them a 93-81 lead with 3:51 left.
Victor Oladipo led Orlando with 20 points. Nikola Vucevic had 14.
MIAMI HEAT 106 — DALLAS MAVERICKS 82
Hassan Whiteside had 25 points and 19 rebounds, Gerald Green added 19 points off the bench and the Miami Heat rolled past the Dallas Mavericks 106-82 on Friday night.
Chris Bosh scored 16 points, Goran Dragic finished with 15 points and seven assists and Dwyane Wade shook off an illness to score 10 points for the Heat. Wade didn’t start because he wasn’t feeling well, then made five of six shots.
Zaza Pachulia led the Mavericks with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Wesley Matthews made four 3-pointers for his 12 points, and Dirk Nowitzki added 11 points for Dallas — which was playing for the first time since topping Golden State on Wednesday night.
Miami shot 56 per cent, compared to 36 per cent for Dallas.
TORONTO RAPTORS 104 — CHARLOTTE HORNETS 94
DeMar DeRozan had 23 points and Kyle Lowry added 18 points and 11 assists as the Toronto Raptors rallied to beat the Charlotte Hornets 104-94 Friday night.
It was the fourth double-double of the season for Lowry, who helped Toronto come back from a seven-point deficit entering the fourth quarter and avenge a 109-99 loss in Charlotte last month.
DeMarre Carroll and Patrick Patterson both added 14 points each for Toronto.
Kemba Walker had 18 points for the Hornets, who also got 17 from Marvin Williams and another 15 points and nine rebounds from center Cody Zeller.
CHICAGO BULLS 108 — NEW YORK KNICKS 81
Jimmy Butler scored 23 points, Nikola Mirotic had 17 points and seven assists in one of his best games of the season, and the Chicago Bulls beat the New York Knicks 108-81 on Friday night.
Pau Gasol added 17 points and eight rebounds as Chicago won for the fourth time in five games while avenging a blowout loss at New York on Dec. 19. Rookie reserve Bobby Portis had 16 points and 10 rebounds in his third consecutive game scoring in double figures.
The Bulls blew a 17-point lead before pulling away from the Knicks in the fourth quarter. Portis made two free throws, Mirotic connected from deep and Butler had a driving layup to close out a 20-6 run that made it 97-79 with 4:48 left.
Carmelo Anthony scored 20 points for New York, which has dropped five of six. Jose Calderon went 3 for 3 from 3-point range and finished with 18 points.
Chicago played without Derrick Rose, who missed his second straight game due to right hamstring tendinitis. The 2011 NBA MVP got treatment before the matchup, but was unable to go.
It looked as if New York was going to get run out of the building early on. The Knicks missed their first 10 shots and needed almost 4 minutes to score their first points of 2016, a layup for rookie Kristaps Porzingis with 8:05 left in the opening quarter.
When Mirotic blocked Lance Thomas’ shot and hit a 3-pointer at the other end, Chicago had a 23-6 lead.
But the Knicks slowly chipped away at the deficit. They got it down to 56-50 at halftime, and Porzingis’ hook shot put New York in front for the first time at 67-65 with 5:20 left in the third.
LA LAKERS 93 — PHILADELPHIA 76ERS 84
Lou Williams scored 12 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter against his former team and Jordan Clarkson added 19, leading Los Angeles over Philadelphia.
Rookie forward Larry Nance Jr. had a season-high 14 rebounds and eight points for the Lakers on his 23rd birthday while playing on a tender right ankle.
Julius Randle scored 15 off the bench for Los Angeles in a matchup between teams with the NBA’s two worst records. Kobe Bryant didn’t play for the Lakers (7-27) against his hometown team because of a sore right shoulder.
Nerlens Noel had 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Sixers (3-32), who tied an NBA record with their 0-18 start before beating the Lakers on Dec. 1 at Philadelphia.
