A Major League Baseball executive has quit his job after claims he had sent unsolicited lewd photos to several female staff members.

Sam Menzin is now the former assistant general manager of the Detroit Tigers after resigning from his post just before the team could fire him for improper workplace conduct.

While the team did not say what specifically he had done to be axed, The Athletic reported that Menzin had sent unsolicited lewd photos to two former female employees with the ballclub, the NY Post reports.

In an interview with the outlet, two women who had worked for the team said the once-respected baseball executive sent disturbing images of his genitalia via the social media app Snapchat, which allows for messages to auto-delete, on several occasions dating as far back as 2017.

An additional woman, who worked in Major League Baseball but not for the Tigers, told The Athletic that somewhere between 2018 and 2019, Menzin had sent her unsolicited messages of his genitalia on the same app.

“Upon being made aware of the allegations as to Sam Menzin’s conduct, the club promptly completed an investigation,” the Tigers said in a statement to the outlet.

“Before the club could terminate Mr. Menzin, he resigned. This type of behaviour is contrary to our standards and has absolutely no place within our organisation. We have a positive and safe culture for our colleagues and will continue to emphasise respect, inclusion, and professionalism.”

The Tigers Compliance & Investigation Business Partner Danny Rosengard had been in contact with the women as recently as last week to see if they had received lewd messages from Menzin, according to the report.

Menzin told The Athletic that he had left his role because he was looking for a change in career and was returning to New York to deal with “some family issues.”

Menzin was with the Tigers organisation for 13 years, working his way up to the assistant general manager position after starting as a baseball operations intern in 2012.

The now-former baseball executive had also interned with the Mets and player agency Turner-Gary Sports.

When asked why the allegations didn’t come out until recently, one woman expressed concerns that no one would have believed her.

“It’s like no one says anything because who is going to believe them when they say Sam Menzin did this?” the person said. “It’s not like a bat boy or security guard. It’s Sam Menzin.” She added that very few women worked in the front office, and “it always felt like saying something wasn’t an option, because who is going to believe you and do anything about it? It’s just this overall sense that (reporting something) wasn’t an option.”

The Tigers were only made aware of the allegations recently, the Detroit Free Press reported, and Menzin resigned within a matter of days of them coming to light.
