LeBron James erupts over announcer’s comment about his son

LeBron James was involved in a fiery incident at his son’s game after taking issue with the announcer.

LeBron James caused a scene at his son Bronny’s basketball game on Saturday, interrupting the game to yell at the PA announcer over a comment he didn’t appreciate.

During the final minutes of the game – which took place at LeBron’s alma mater St. Vincent-St. Mary’s High School, at the aptly named LeBron James Arena – the Lakers star took issue after a PA announcer said Bronny got a foul call because he was playing in a gym with his father’s name on it, according to the broadcast.

The 36-year-old got up and started yelling at the announcer, interrupting the game in the process. It took LeBron a minute or so to calm down before he ended up walking back to his seat.

Bronny’s Strive for Greatness team ended up losing the game in overtime, 73-69. The game was a part of a tournament highlighting some of the best high school talent in America’s Midwest.

The incident divided opinions in America.

Jack Posobiec, an editor at the conservative newspaper Human Events, branded James “classless”.

Seattle radio host Paul Gallant believed the four-time MVP needed to accept his name would always follow his son around.

“Walking onto a court midway through a game and essentially stopping it so you can confront said PA guy isn‘t the best way to make it about your son,” Gallant tweeted.

“Whether fair or unfair, it’s never going to be just about Bronny. LeBron will always be a conversation branch in any discussion about his son. Ask Marcus Jordan. Helicopter parenting an announcer’s words isn’t going to make things better.”

But former NFL player turned Fox commentator Shannon Sharpe believed the Lakers forward was within his rights to challenge the announcer.

“I thought it was a cheap shot by the announcer to frame it like this,” Sharpe said. “LeBron was well within his right to step in and say that was unnecessary.”
