AUSTRALIAN Seattle Seahawks player Jesse Williams has been diagnosed with cancer at the age of just 24, his team announced today.

In a brief statement, the Seahawks revealed Williams had been diagnosed with Papillary Type 2 cancer and would undergo kidney surgery.

“Although disappointing, I am a fighter and will handle this,” Williams said in the statement.

“I am going to focus on my health and fighting this battle with a return to football as my ultimate goal. Thank you for your thoughts and support. Go Hawks!”

Seattle’s executive VP/GM John Schneider said: “Jesse is an extraordinarily tough individual who has overcome a great deal in his life and we will support him in any way possible. He is in our thoughts and prayers.”

Williams made this post to his Instagram account after the news was announced.

Williams was just recently re-signed by the Seahawks after an injury-riddled start to his NFL career, which followed a successful college career with Alabama. The Australian owns a Super Bowl winners ring, yet has not debuted in the NFL to date.
