Here’s how people reacted to the announcement of the official LA Rams logo
NEW city. New era. But a decidedly boring logo. That’s the verdict from NFL fans after the LA Rams announced their new logo today.
NEW city. New era. But a decidedly boring logo.
That’s the story for the St Louis Rams who, as of next season, will be the Los Angeles Rams when they relocate to California and end the city’s 21-year wait for an NFL team.
Earlier this week the NFL announced that owners voted 30-2 to approve Rams owner Stan Kroenke’s proposal for a $1.86 million stadium in suburban Inglewood, a project that could crack $2 billion before its is completed.
But while the franchise will enter a brave new world in 2016, clearly its marketing department decided to play it safe when it announced its new logo at a press conference on Saturday (AEDT).
Here’s the old logo.
And here’s the new one.

Unsurprisingly, the Twittersphere responded immediately, with most mocking the “new” design.
The LA Rams logo looks eerily similar to.....wait for it.... the St Louis Rams logopic.twitter.com/fM7zUUl4e2

Of course, it could be seen as a logical choice to, for all intents and purposes, keep the same logo as a way of ensuring the loyalty of existing fans. But those on Twitter obviously didn’t see it that way.
Kroenke teared up at today’s media conference, during which he explained the decision-making process behind the relocation.
“It’s been a long road back,” said Kroenke. “We made it.”
Following the finalisation of the move earlier this week, Kroenke said the process had been the most difficult of his career.
“It is a difficult process, as commissioner said, it is bittersweet,” he said.
“This has been the most difficult process of my professional career.”
“I think this is going to be one of the great complexes in the world,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said.
Three teams were looking to relocate to Los Angeles as early as next season, but while the Rams will relocate for the 2016 season, the San Diego Chargers have an option to join the Rams at their new home at a later date.
The Rams’ new stadium is set to open in 2019 with the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and the Los Angeles Coliseum as potential temporary fill-in options for them.
The move back to Los Angeles for the Rams came exactly 70 years to the day after NFL owners approved the team’s move from Cleveland to Los Angeles.
Los Angeles, the second-largest city in the United States, has not been home to an NFL club since the Raiders relocated to Oakland and the Rams departed for St. Louis, both coming after the 1994 season.
