The Notre Dame Vs Clemson college football game was one of the most anticipated matches of the season but social media has been left with troubling questions after fans stormed the field after an epic match.

Clemson are one of college football’s powerhouses having made the last two national championship games on the back of quarterback Trevor Lawrence.

But with Lawrence out for the past two games after contracting COVID-19 as well as three defensive line starters, it left the door open for Notre Dame to pull of an upset. And they did — just barely.

In front of a crowd of 10,000 fans due to COVID restrictions, Notre Dame won a 2OT 47-40 thriller to end a 28-game winning streak for Clemson within the ACC division.

It’s the first time in 27 years Notre Dame are the top ranked team in the nation.

The excitement overflowed onto the field with the 10,000 strong crowd storming the field after the win.

Despite a massive increase in daily cases of COVID across the US, the coaches of the respective teams didn’t have an issue with the lack of social distancing.

“When they stormed the field you got a sense of a special moment at Notre Dame,” Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said. “I told our team in our walk-thru today, I said, ‘Listen, when we win this thing, the fans are going to storm the field. With COVID being as it is, we’ve got to get off the field and get to the tunnel.’ Now I beat them all to the tunnel, so that didn’t go over so good.”

Notre Dame quarterback Ian Book said “When fans stormed the field, it was fun” while running back Kyren Williams enjoyed the festivities.

“That’s the first time I’ve ever seen any college storm the field. That was a cool experience,” Williams said. “(Kelly) told us to get inside after the game as fast as we could.”

Even Clemson coach Dabo Swinney didn’t have a problem with the celebrations.

He was seen on TV cameras trying to navigate his way off the field through throng of supporters.

“It was an epic game, emotional game,” Swinney said. “They were excited for their team.”

Hopefully the masks in the crowd will keep any spread to a minimum.

While there were plenty of masks in the crowd, social media was quick to slam the move as daily cases of COVID-19 have spiked across the nation with Indiana no exception.

The numbers in Indiana have spiked in the past month, having gone from a record of 1600 new daily cases on August 24 to 5007 on November 7.
