Entourage creator furious at NY Giants QB Eli Manning for brushing guest appearance

THE creator of Entourage has blown up at a two-time Super Bowl MVP for rejecting an invitation to appear on the popular show.

ENTOURAGE might be one of the hottest shows in television — and now a blockbuster film — but it wasn’t cool enough for NFL star Eli Manning apparently.

Doug Ellin, the creator of the hit HBO show, was furious the New York Giants quarterback rejected an approach to appear in the program. “One of the great tragedies was Eli Manning bailing on me,” Ellin said during a recent episode of In Depth with Graham Bensinger. “He said, ‘I love the show. I’d love to be on it’.”

Despite Manning’s supposed love of the show, calls to the Super Bowl-winning playmaker were repeatedly ignored.

Ellin labelled the situation “beyond frustrating”, having already written a scene for Manning and older brother Peyton.

“I took however much time it takes to write a script and then I sent it to him and he didn’t call me back, and I called him again and he didn’t call me back,” Ellin said. “I was going crazy.”

Fortunately, Hollywood A-lister and one of the show’s producers Mark Wahlberg stepped in to do the scene with New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

Being a Giants fan, Ellin wasn’t tempted to switch allegiances to the Pats, though he did lavish praise on the six-time Super Bowl-winner.

“(Tom Brady) was just awesome,” he said. “He was easy to work with and was happy to be there. We called him and he showed up the same way.”

With a blockbuster film based on the show set to be released in US cinemas on June 3, plenty of other celebrities have taken the chance to make an appearance on the big screen with Vinny Chase and his crew.

The likes of UFC fighter Ronda Rousey, former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry and actors Liam Neeson and Jessica Alba are just some of the names to make cameos in the movie. Manning’s Giants missed the NFL play-offs last season with a 6-10 record.
