Blizzard forces NFL game between Jets and Bills to be moved from Buffalo

THE Jets and Bills will not be playing each other Monday (Australian time) in Buffalo, however, it remained unclear as to where and when they will play.

THE Jets and Bills will not be playing each other Monday (Australian time) in Buffalo, however, it remained unclear as to where and when they will play.

“Due to public safety concerns for the ongoing weather emergency in Western New York, Sunday’s Jets-Bills game will not be played in Buffalo,” tweeted NFL spokesman Greg Aiello.

Enormous amounts of lake-effect snow have fallen this week on Buffalo and its suburbs, and there is a driving ban in Orchard Park, where the Bills’ stadium is located.

While the Jets held practice in Florham Park on Thursday, the Bills again did not practice, and now have missed two days of practice this week.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said earlier Thursday it would be “impractical” to play the game in Orchard Park on Sunday.

It’s possible the game could be played at Ford Field in Detroit, where a Giants-Minnesota Vikings game was held in 2010 after the roof of the Metrodome collapsed due to heavy snow.

The NHL on Thursday postponed the Rangers-Sabres game scheduled to be played in Buffalo on Friday night. Also Thursday, the Mid-American Conference tentatively rescheduled a college-football game between Kent State and Buffalo for Friday night. That game, to be played in Amherst, N.Y., was postponed Wednesday. Amherst is north of the city of Buffalo and hasn’t been hit as hard by the snow.

Heavy snow forced road closures across western New York.

Jets coach Rex Ryan indicated that his team (2-8) has contingency plans in case the game is played Monday or Tuesday. The Jets’ next game after the Bills’ contest is Dec. 1, a Monday nighter, against the Miami Dolphins at MetLife Stadium.

The Bills (5-5) are scheduled to host Cleveland on Nov. 30.
