Wounded Brisbane Lions determined to tame Richmond Tigers

LIONS midfield star Jack Redden says the 98-point loss to West Coast in Perth on Sunday "cut deep" but insists Brisbane can bounce back.

LIONS midfield star Jack Redden says the 98-point loss to West Coast in Perth on Sunday "cut deep".

But the young gun says Brisbane can bounce back in time to tame the Tigers on Saturday night at the Gabba.

Redden was one of the few Lions who could walk out of Patersons Stadium with his head held high after Brisbane stumbled to their heaviest defeat of the year.

The Eagles outclassed and outplayed the disappointing Lions who were never in the contest.

The scoreline highlighted the significant difference between a side fighting for a top-four berth and a side fighting for respect in the AFL world.

Redden was clearly Brisbane's best with 28 disposals, 17 contested possessions, 11 clearances, eight tackles, five inside-50 entries, one scoring assist and one goal.

Redden was bullish about Brisbane's chances against Richmond who have the same 7-10 win-loss record as the Lions.

"When you get pumped by almost 100 points it is not a good feeling," Redden said. "The boys are hurting. This has cut deep. The Eagles taught us a massive lesson.

"I think they have lost something like one game at home in the last 18 months so it was always going to be tough to win but we got dominated out there.

"We beat them in the clearances, but they dominated us on the spread.

"They are a quality side and we can learn a lot from them. We have to start afresh and get back to what we know we are good at.

"We need to have a good training session so we are right for Richmond.

"They'll be tough to beat too because they've had a couple of losses, but I'm sure the boys will get up for that game."

The Tigers have had their hearts broken with three nail-biting losses to Gold Coast, North Melbourne and Carlton, ending their finals hopes.

Brisbane are also out of September calculations but Redden said the Lions still had plenty to play for in 2012.

"We've got to keep our heads up," he said. "There's five games to go and we think we can get a few more wins. It's a really important focus for us."
