West Coast believes recent wet Perth has them primed to pip Pies
WILD weather in Perth has inadvertently topped up West Coast players' belief that they're ready to end their MCG misery on Saturday.
WILD weather in Perth has inadvertently topped up West Coast players' belief that they're ready to end their MCG misery tomorrow.
Assistant coach Justin Longmuir says the West's big wet can give them the edge to beat Collingwood at the MCG for the first time since 1995.
"I think it will play into our hands. We've had wet conditions in Perth for two weeks, and we played Carlton in wet conditions last week and did really well," Longmuir said.
"I think naturally in wet weather, you train up your skills. Obviously, through ball-handling and the options you take with your kicking. And we had a good opportunity at our main training session this week; it rained non-stop throughout the session, so we were able to really prepare well for this week if it's going to rain."
The Eagles had a light workout on a soggy Junction Oval today, and Longmuir predictably played down the long losing streak.
"Teams change. Their record over us in Melbourne hasn't even been brought up among the players. A lot of those players aren't here now, so it's really year on year. History really doesn't mean a lot," he said.
"It (result) doesn't necessarily make it more significant in terms of ladder positions. It's just a good opportunity to play a really in-form side and see where you're at pretty much at the midway part of the year."
