West Coast facing two more weeks of quarantine if they lose to Magpies

The West Coast Eagles will have even more motivation to beat the Collingwood Magpies — or plenty of time to think about the loss.

West Coast will have to head into home quarantine for two weeks if they lose Saturday night’s elimination final against Collingwood.

Under WA quarantine rules, the Eagles players have been isolating at home since returning from Queensland, where they completed the home and away season.

But no matter the result in their week one final, they’ll have to continue isolating because the Magpies are considered a “dirty club”, according to West Coast coach Adam Simpson.

The Pies are going through a seven-day quarantine period before their elimination final - which was crucial to the AFL ticking off the Eagles hosting the game in Perth.

But that also means they won’t have fully cleared WA’s quarantine period for arrivals.

“We’re in two weeks quarantine now, I think Collingwood are in a seven-day quarantine so I think they’ll be considered a dirty club when we play them,” Simpson said on 3AW.

“So if we lose, we’ll go back into quarantine for another two weeks on top of that. I’ve told our leaders, so I think that might be an extra incentive to win.

“If we have a win, we’ll go back into quarantine until we travel and then away we go again. But unfortunately it will be a 28-day stint in quarantine if we don’t roll the Pies.”

If the Eagles win on Saturday night, they’ll quarantine at home until flying to either South Australia or Queensland for a semi-final against the loser of Port Adelaide’s qualifying final against Geelong.

“The quarantine issue is something we’ve had to deal with and I can’t imagine what it’s been like in Victoria doing it for several weeks,” Simpson said.

“But quarantining at home for a month is probably like Victoria except when you look out the window you see everyone walking around the streets and going to pubs.”
