Travis Boak keeps Port teammates in the dark about future

TRAVIS Boak will not even tell his Port Adelaide teammates of his future, increasing the unease at Alberton.

TRAVIS Boak will not even tell his Port Adelaide teammates of his future, increasing the unease at Alberton.

Power defender Jackson Trengove and his teammates hit up the out-of-contract midfielder on Sunday night amid the intense speculation Boak will return to Victoria next season - for family reasons.

And Boak's answer followed his public line after Showdown XXXIII: "I'll make my decision when I'm ready."

Despite the increasing expectation Boak will quit Port - and join Geelong - Port's management and players remain confident in keeping their club champion.

"We're pretty confident he'll be with us next year," said Trengove, who last year shared the John Cahill Medal as the Power club champion.

"We went hammer and tong at him (Sunday) night with what was going on.

"We wanted to know a little bit as well, where he sat, just for our comfort.

"We were up front with him last night and he was back up front with us too ... we're very happy with where he's at."

If - as expected - Boak wants to quit Port, he cannot announce it yet.

AFL rules forbid an in-season declaration of a move to a rival club - as expansion franchise Greater Western Sydney learned last year when it had Adelaide centre half-back Phil Davis announce his defection before the Crows' season closed.

But there is no rule stopping Boak from committing to Port now.

The delay in an announcement - even to his teammates - suggests Port is to lose one of its prime players.
