Joe Daniher has been caught out in damning vision that’s exposed the Lions star’s hypocrisy.

The Brisbane forward has come under renewed fire following his performance in the Lions’ Round 3 loss to the Bulldogs.

Daniher, a lightning rod for criticism surrounding the club’s misfiring forward line, had another shocker against the Dogs, finishing with 0.4.

But it wasn’t his goalkicking that came under fire on Channel 9’s Footy Classified on Monday night.

Extraordinary footage pieced together captured Daniher committing a cardinal sin of blazing away for goal when teammate Charlie Cameron was all-but alone in the goal square.

It came after footage of Daniher demanding the ball from Eric Hipwood when one on one in the goal square with a defender in the Lions win over the Demons the previous week.

As captured by Fox Footy cameras, Daniher let Hipwood know about it at their next team huddle and even shoved his fellow key forward when demanding an answer.

Veteran football commentator Caroline Wilson said on Nine the vision was “appalling”.

Co-hosts Matthew Lloyd and Kane Cornes were also scathing of Daniher’s efforts.

Lions coach Chris Fagan also showed rare public disappointment in Daniher in his post-match press conference.

When asked if he gets frustrated by Daniher some times, Fagan responded: “Yeah. Obviously we’ll review the game and talk about missed opportunities. And that will be part of the feedback that comes his way”.

Wilson said Fagan’s comments were telling.

“That’s the strongest he’s ever been publicly,” she said.

“They just wrap their arms around him every time. I can’t understand it.”

Lloyd said it may be time for the Lions to show Daniher some tough love.

“With his effort and second efforts or lack of, I wonder how hard Chris has been on him,” Lloyd said on the show.

He went on to say: “The attitude to stop, not chase, when you’ve been around for 10 years, I wonder how hard they’ve been on him in that situation.

“I see the killer instinct in Jeremy Cameron to run down and chase players. The premiership type players. The premiership type players that get to the dais and win premierships as key forwards. He’s not looking like one at the moment after all this time with what he’s like when he doesn’t have the ball in his hands.”

Cornes then pointed out the hypocrisy in Daniher’s failure to find Cameron on Thursday night.

“He would be a frustrating teammate to play with,” he said.

“A week ago this is him demanding the ball from Hipwood. You can see him in the goal square demanding it. That body language isn’t good as a teammate. That’s why he’s a frustrating teammate to play with.”

He said it wasn’t a good look when Daniher confronted Hipwood about it on the field and said teammates would be frustrated that he ignored Cameron in the goal square.

The heat is on the Lions’ star-studded forward line after the club made the extraordinary move to sign up Hipwood and Daniher to extraordinary long-term contracts.

Daniher, 29, is contracted to the Lions until the end of 2025.

Hipwood, 25, added an extra six years to his deal, tying him to the club until at least the end of the 2029 season.

Dual premiership Kangaroo David King said on Fox Footy the Lions’ forward line is like a “box of chocolates”.

“You’ve got no idea what you’re going to get out of Daniher,” he said.

“You’ve got no idea what Eric is going to do week to week. They throw the ruckman forward as an act of desperation. The smalls that are meant to do the work are hit and miss.”

Lions champion and Fox Footy analyst Jonathan Brown also made the bold declaration on Monday night the club can’t win the flag with Daniher and Hipwood as their key targets up forward.

“Three contested marks between Hipwood and Daniher for the year, that’s a terrible return,” Brown told Fox Footy on Monday.

“They’re starting to see Dan McStay has been missed. He seemed to be the bullocking, straight-down-the-line type forward that was able to contest and compete.

“Any key forward needs to be reliable and predictable to his teammates and I’m not seeing (that) in Daniher and Hipwood at the moment.

“That’s a problem for the Brisbane Lions and they’ve got to sort it out.”
