Test your western derby knowledge

WHICH team has a perfect 4-0 record in Saturday afternoon clashes between Fremantle and West Coast? Find out in our Western Derby trivia.

THE Olympics may be sport's biggest drawcard, but there's an epic event of a different kind that most West Australians will be monitoring with great interest come Saturday.

It shapes as one of the biggest derby battles in history. A depleted West Coast outfit trying to keep in touch with the AFL’s top four facing a stern test against a resurgent Fremantle unit looking to soar into the top eight.

Before gathering around the TV or settling in your seats at Patersons Stadium this weekend, PerthNow gives you some trivia ammo to try out on your friends and family.

THIS weekend’s clash will mark just the fifth time Fremantle and West Coast have clashed on a Saturday afternoon. Remarkably, the Dockers have won all four previous meetings in the timeslot, despite trailing 21-14 in the overall derby count.

IF HE plays, Dean Cox will move into outright second on the all-time games played list for derbies with 23. Matthew Pavlich leads the way as he approaches derby no.26, having not missed a local clash since his debut in 2000. Shane Parker, Shaun McManus and Ben Cousins all appeared in 22 derbies.

WEST Coast will be shooting for its fourth-straight derby win. The club has not won four in a row against Fremantle since its nine-game winning streak to begin the rivalry between 1995 and 1999.

COME quarter-time on Saturday, we should have a fair idea of Fremantle’s prospects of winning - if history is any guide. The Dockers have a 13-4 winning record in derbies when kicking three goals or more in the first term. They’ve won just once - Round 21, 2000, by a point - when booting less than three majors in the opening quarter.

DARREN Glass, who is serving a one-game suspension, will miss just his second derby since 2003.

ROSS Lyon will be looking to avoid joining Gerard Neesham as the only Fremantle coach to lose his first two derbies in charge.

A RUCKMAN has won a Ross Glendinning Medal in the second derby in each of the past three seasons (Aaron Sandilands in 2009 and 2010; Cox in 2011).
